Exclamation Spark plug vs coil problem

Hi - Is there a way to tell the difference between needing replacement spark plugs or needing a replacement coil? The service engine light went on in my 2011 328xi and the symptoms seem to be the same for both (at least according what I've read online).

My CPO-warranty will cover coils but not spark plugs...so I only want to take it to the dealership if I know for sure it's the coils.
