It's official - stock pads aren't good enough for the track
On prior weekends, I had gone to the track and experienced pretty soft pedal action, probably due to not bleeding my brakes after a long winter.
Last weekend I flushed my fluid and headed back to the track for an open day. The pedal action was rock hard, indicating that the fluid was holding up juuuust fine. However, the stock pads severely overheated and just couldn't slow the car down effectively. I was pressing hard, the pedal was hard, but I just wasn't slowing down much. I've been to this track ~15 times, so I'm pretty consistent with my braking points. With the stock pads (compared to Porterfield R-4 in front), I had to initiate braking waaaaay earlier as the session wore on. The rub is that the stock pads are free and get replaced free, whereas these damn R4 pads cost $190 for the fronts alone! At roughly 3 weekends on a set of front pads, this could get expensive. |

I used Axxis ultimates on my Stoptechs (on my Audi) and they worked ok...not great. Let us know what you think.

I've had great success with CarboTech (www.CTBrakes.com) pads on all my cars.

I ran the Hawk HPS on my e46 and really disliked them in all regards. While less dusty, they rattled in the caliper a lot and were not suitable for the track. Fade was bad and pedal feel left something to be desired.
On my track car I ran Porterfield R4's and was really happy with them.
