Fan won't turn off while car is on?

Even when the engine is cold, the fan won't turn off... any suggestions?

Check for codes with INPA. Fan running all the time is a common symptom of a water pump failure, or imminent failure.

Also try running the water pump auto-bleed and listen to the pump to see if it's running.

Turn ignition on, engine off
Turn HVAC blower to lowest speed (w/o turning it off)
Turn HVAC temperature to highest setting
Fully depress gas pedal and hold for about 10 seconds, water pump should turn on

The auto-bleed procedure takes about 10 minutes. You can remove the coolant tank cap (if the coolant is cold) and see if coolant is moving around. If not, your pump is toast. You will also be able to hear the pump cycling on and off at various speeds.

Mine sounded like this when it failed:

See post above.. Scan for codes, most likely your water pump\thermostat are failing.

I have a feeling you're right. Mine makes no noise at all. How far can/should I drive? I imagine not far at all

I'll pull the codes with my accessport.

How are you reading coolant temp? The temp gauge on the dash is OIL temp. Oil temp can be low while coolant temp is too high if the water pump isn't moving coolant around, it's just sitting in the engine heating up. Or maybe the high temp warning is just telling you that the water pump failed. Not sure if it doubles as a pump warning too.

Starting from full cold, I wouldn't drive it for more than a couple miles, and only if you NEED to.

I believe he's doing it with his COBB Accessport.

That's correct. My laptop with INPA died Cobb AP is the only thing I have available right this second.
edit: by the way... you guys are right that I was looking at Oil temp. Gotta go check coolent temp. This is super annoying, my car was hit (hit-and-run) on Saturday... this is like the bonus to that.

Is there any chance this could come from someone hitting my car on the front driver's side? Or completely unrelated?

I have this issue almost every time I flash a new tune.

I just reset the codes and adaptations with the car off, ignition on.

It sometimes takes 2 or 3 times.

If you haven't flashed a tune recently it may not be that then. First step would be to reset codes and adaptations and see if it comes back. Reset with car off, ignition on.

If you are still on original water pump and near 75K miles or more, it is sometimes a warning that the water pump is on it's way out.

Also check your coolant level.

Coolant temps is about 220 give or take 5 for operating temp. (must be read through a tuner)

Oil temp is about ~238 depending on ambient temps and a warm up time. (gauge on dash)

Depends on how hard they hit and if they damaged anything.

Well before the accident car was fine... After the accident the water pump is ready to blow. If you no longer have warranty on the car then fuck it and chalk that damage up to the accident and have insurance cover it.

True... and that shithead shouldn't have run, otherwise it would be on my insurance. Not it's on his

Not advisable for you or the engine. This will likely leave you stranded and potentially in middle of traffic. Good Luck.

While I would not recommend driving it, if you are going to anyways, don't clear the codes. The codes trigger the cooling fan to come on full time which will help keep the engine cool, although probably not much. Not sure how quickly the codes will come back after clearing.

Better not to drive the car. I had the same situation, wherein my WP failed and I managed to drive home 3 miles. But it was most scariest time on the car for me. The car was getting power on and off intermittently under full throttle. I couldn't predict when it would move and it was scary in traffic. I got stuck in the freeway and took many breaks to cross the 3 miles. A Cop came to escort me out of freeway. Full drama. Then I went to a parking lot to let the engine cool down and made the last 0.5 mile to home. Just one survival tip at this situation, use the heater and fan at highest setting, so that heat is moved away from the engine.

That only works when the water pump is working

I was able to pick up my dog from doggy daycare which was 1.5 miles away. All green lights each way with no high heat warning. The fan did come back on as soon as the car started though. Going to get it towed to the dealer tomorrow.
