Post The Rear View Mirror Guide

I've noticed mirrors can have a lot of options

options
Alarm "LED" (is this identified by red dot?)
FLA = automatic high beam via light sensor
Compass
Homelink garage opener
EC = "Electrochromatic" Auto dim (dip)
Rain sensor
ETC = Electronic Toll Collection
RC = remote control (not sure what this is. possibly just the key FOB receiver)

oem part list

An e90 US Spec mirror with all options

Learnings / Notes
1. Mirrors from E82, 5, 7, X1, X3, X5 etc are interchangable. Even e90 mirrors work on e46 mirrors

2. Very rare: some mirrors have Compass+FLA+GTO

For a BMW: Go to realoem.com and input your car info. Find the mirror part number that requires every option = yes. It will even show you cross applications. Search for that.

Sorry, no idea for your Lambo, try rockauto.

I have an e90 2007 with Auto Lights, Rain Sensor.
without auto dim. No fla. no Garage door homelink.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_5830
There are only 3 mirrors above with FLA

#51169225987 has the most options

For vehicles with Integrated universal remote control and High-beam assistant
S319A=Yes S5ACA=Yes 01
Rearview mirror EC/LED/GTO/FLA/RC

Questions:

1. Will the above part be compatible with alarm?
realoem says LED means for alarm system.
But in other mirror parts it specifically says "for vehicles with alarm"
so is there something else missing?

2. What is Auto dip interior?
I know exterior means auto dip the exterior side mirror for parking. But what does Auto Dip Interior do?????

3. Why do some mirrors mention RC "remote control".
Don't all cars have remote control?

Will the location of wire cuts in this used mirror photo will be a problem for retrofitting?

No it won't be a problem. Exact number of wires.

I bought a used RVM that comes with homelink/auto dimming so and my car wasn't equipped, so I'll have to code it. Looking for the coding site...

Since this is "The Guide," I am hoping someone can share whether I can replace the OEM mirror with a generic aftermarket mirror, and not trigger any codes or have any problems?

My mirror has a few issues, and I don't care about the compass feature I have. From what I can tell, I have the 51169192321 mirror, EC/LED/GTO/compass/RC, but not alarm. I confirmed this at BMWVIN that I have S5GAA, Preparation for Alarm.

EDIT: I've received confirmation from another member that replacing the mirror will not trigger any codes. I'll confirm in a month or two after I buy and install one!

I bought mirror 51169192335 EC-LED- GTO-COMPASS to put it on my E92 and make it work like HOMELINK.
I also purchased the cable kit 61120434330 and I modified by adding 3 pins of my old mirror with internal condensation sensor.

perfect I have assembled everything, coded and everything works fine ... or almost.
EC is fine, as a car is in the back with headlights on it darkens and is beautiful.
delicious compass to see, it has self-set itself after a few km.

only thing I haven't done yet, is memorizing the Homelink gate remote control. I did some tests but it doesn't work. I'll waste some time

I can't memorize my Homelink
the American frequency (where I bought the mirror) is different from the European one (where I live)
what frequencies do you use for remote controls in america?

Remove the pins from the connector and feed them though the boot through a straw

I think it is 315MHz but it does not matter if you have a newer opener. I just installed a new opener recently and the built in Home link is not compatible.

I bought a universal receiver to put on my gate motor, which has frequencies from 300 to 800MHz

I tried all these combinations but I could not memorize the 3 keys

Does E46 rear view mirror (8236774) fits on E92? Seller insisted that it fits and works correctly, but when I look into BMW parts I see that its not listed as compatible to E92. Anyone tried it?

I have a 2004 330XI E46 that came with the auto dim and emergency call button. From Ebay I found a replacement that had Home-Link, Hidden Compass and auto dim - that came from a 753. The shape of the mirror was the same, but the bases did not match. My E46 base was triangular but did not have the 3 nubs and the replacement had nubs. The power plug was the same. I filed off the nubs to make it flat and the mirror mounted. Drove and recalibrate the compass. To pair the HL, it needed several tries. After resetting by pressing both outter buttons, I had to "move" the handheld garage opener away from the mirror while both were pressed. At about 6 in. away, it paired and then I went through the Learn Process for the rolling code. Pressed the mirror HL 3 times and on the 3rd time, it worked! Hope this helps.
