PSS9 for XI application

Recent posts are saying that the only coilover setup available for an XI are H&R and KW V3 and that PSS9 is not for XI.

The Bilstein web site though seems to show that PSS9 applies to XI as well. See pic below.

I like PSS9 for the better comfort is seems to provide compared to H&R or KW.

Can anyone please clarify whether PSS9 can be used for an XI?

eshocks.com seems to have the best price from what I've seen so far and Turner Motorsports selling it for $100 more. Anyone else has a better price?

I'm very interested to get PSS9 if this for XI so vendors and current owners selling this please PM me for pricing.

Thanks.

I went back and forth will Bilstein in Germany on that one. Their engineers finally concluded that the PSS9 will not work with the XI. However, they indicated that they were working on an XI application and that I should check back with them in the fall.

I was hoping to hear the opposite.

take these words with a grain of salt, somethign tells me the springs/shocks coils will work from an I on an XI, somebody prove me wrong...

The manufacturers who sell these products wont 'confirm' this b/c they havent actually attempted install on an XI. Other than ride height I have yet to discover a reason for why they should be any different. Ride height for extra clearance in the snow....so why wouldnt they fit?

Your question brings up this question: "Why would KW make a separate V3 for the XI instead of using the regular V3 in the XI's?"

My take is that there's some difference prompting KW to make a different coilover for the xi

1. The XI stock is like .5'' or higher than the I
2. Perhaps they maintain that stock .5'' in their CO?? I really dont know...

But I find it hard to believe they develop a separate suspension system for the XI considering the only difference is 200 lbs of weight and higher ground clearance. Perhaps the XI CO's maintain that addt'l clearance?

The difference has to be in the springs. When spool returns I plan on removing my stock suspension for an aftermarket replacement, I will verify at that time the difference in the OEM I springs vs the XI springs...

If the OEM I springs fit the XI and ride is decent than the only difference is prob. spring height and possibly rate

I agree, pdjafari. I think the only difference is that the XI is .5 higher to begin with. Everything else is the same.

Keep us posted on if the OEM "i" srpings fit the xi.

the rears on the i are exactly the same as the xi. But the front is different. I tried to have a tckline suspension instaled on my xi that was made for an i. Well they had to do some modifications like welding bumpstops and in the end i was unhappy with them because my car was sitting higher in the front than the rear and the suspension was set on the lowest setting possible in the front. so in your question it takes alot of work to make an i suspension fit an xi, it cost me about 20 hours of labor for it to work...and it still didnt come out the way i wanted. Who would want a 5k suspension on a car that they oculd not drop the front, which was only about .5 inches shorter than it was stock....looked ridiculous.

Supramano, how are you liking your KW V3 btw? Is it much stiffer than stock? How's the ride quality compared to stock?

I was looking at PSS9 because of the supposed better ride than H&R and KW.

hmm..

this is bad news for me since i was thinking about getting h&r race springs made for the 328i and install them on my 328xi.. you wouldnt happen to have pics of your stock xi springs vs the i tckline springs for comparison?

I am skeptical about supramano's setup and stating that welding had to be performed. If you had to weld things, how is it that the V3s for the XI dont require any welding? I mean unless the mount points are different I cant see having to do any welding just for a suspension??
