Nice job. A 15% reduction in paint thickness after a single detail? I'm afraid to detail/wax for that very reason, although the dealership car wash certainly did a number on my clear coat over jet black. Might have to bite the bullet and lose some clear coat this spring. Insightful post. Thanks for sharing.

not 15% This was a fairly new car, and I was taking those pictures to show the owner signs of wetsanding.

A rule of thumb is 2 microns reduction

Generally you can never be for certain. A general gauge only shows total depth. So you must measure the entire car and inquire about the procedures that the car has been through to make an estimate. But unless if the paint is REALLY thin, the process is fairly accurate.

I am upgrading gauges to where it will tell me the SEPARATE thicknesses of the PRIMER, PAINT, and CC and maps it out on a laptop wirelessly.

, and yes its $$$

So you washed the car twice? Once with the CWC and once with CWG.
Or did you use them on different parts?

It's actually about 4-5 mil thick, which is equivalent to 1 piece of paper.

Fminus it's nice to see your work around here again. Your details are always impressive.
