CA Emissions Warranty Miracle?
I've owned my 335d for about 3 months now and ever since I bought it I have had a intermittent SES light that has been 4b6a or the SCR tank level sensor in the passive tank. The car is a 2011 and has just under 56k on the odometer, well out of the service warranty.
I took it into the dealership after the SES stayed on throughout 2 fill ups and was told they would need to replace the tank due to the faulty DEF tank sensor. I wasn't too excited about spending $2400 on a car I had just purchased so I asked about the 70k CA Emissions Warranty. I live in Utah which isn't covered under the CA warranty or a smog state. After the SA pulled up the warranty PDF and scrolled to the 335d section he called someone else at the dealership. After about 5 minutes of looking things through he said, "Yeah, it looks like it's covered." I took the car back in after the weekend to get the work done and verified that the repair was covered under warranty. Once again was assured it was covered and I wouldn't be charged for the repairs. I was just waiting for the SA to call me with bad news saying that he had made a mistake but after 3 days at the dealership I picked up the car and didn't pay a dime for the new SCR tank. I was also told that there was a small upper oil line leak to the turbos that was found when I brought it back in which was also fixed. The estimated amount those two repairs was $3,781.00 (per the service sheet) I didn't pay a dime for them ![]() Has anyone else heard of something like this being covered in a state outside of the CA warranty? I feel like I just pulled off the biggest warranty heist of all time and would love to know if anyone else has had something similar happen to them. |

The urea tank has been problematic and you were a few thousand miles outside the warranty( not sure about where car is in 48 months). Many folks here have had to go more than one tank. They did good will for you as they still don't have a bullet proof design. Supposedly the tank had been redesigned but I only say this as I've read it at this diesel forum. I'm glad to hear your story was a good one. Keep an eye on your NOx sensors and metering valve(urea injector). The valve is easily cleaned with distilled water. Best of luck and enjoy the torque in the Utah mountains.

I wouldn't pay anything for that. It's a known problem.
