Post CODE: 0046B7 Swirl Flaps Adaptation (How to perform the Adaptation?)

I have a 2011 335d with Electric Swirl Flaps Actuator

After CBU Cleaning I have a 0046B7 code that point to the Swirl Flaps Actuator. The question is: How to reset the Swirl Flaps Actuator Adaptations with using ISTA D? I can't find it under "Service functions"-Engine-DDE(US)", I can't see "Swirl Flaps Actuator" or anything like that in the list. Could you please point me to right menu option there? Thank you.

Normally ISTA should take you to the concerned test plan by itself if you click on the test plan linked to that error code.

I entered the code in ISTA and it points to the actuator connection. It doesn't say anything about adaptation.May be check your actuator motor connection again and make sure that lever moves freely.

Hi,
Thank you so much for checking it for me, but the connector\wires are good and lever moves freely when car is sleep, but when ignition is ON, I can't move the lever, actuator always tries to return it to the initial position. ISTA D has a special test for swirl flaps and they don't want to move, but day before yesterday I tried to reset all adaptations that possible and after I did something I ran the Swirl Flaps test again and it Worked! I was really happy), but the issue came back again next day... I read some instructions(even in CARB cleaning document) and it says that if you take off swirl flaps actuator it can lose the adaptations\corrections. That is why I think that I have to reset the adaptations somehow...

By the way ISTA pointed me to the test plan and it tests the Swirl Flaps, and at the end of the Swirl Flaps Test it says that I have to reset the adaptations, but I can't find this function... How to reset those adaptations ?

Oh ok..

I can't remember (when i opened the actuator and lever arms on my X5 35D's manifold to clean the junk from the flaps) that if there is any possibility to put any part including motor or any lever in totally opposite 180 degree orientation??

I will try to look for that adaptation function in ista.

I can't sleep because of this question But I found a picture of the brand new intake with installed Swirl Flaps Actuator and I recorded a video during cleaning process, so I can compare position of lever when flaps are opened in the video and on the picture of new intake - it seems like when lever in the right position flaps are opened in the video and on the screen... Could you compare it too? Probably I missed something?

Thanks.

Yes it looks like flaps should be fully open in resting position.

So it seems like I put it back in a proper way and it should not be the cause of the case...(I hope so). I read even on this forum that many people reset this adaptation somehow, so there should be a way to do it.

Found swirl flap adaptations in ISTA-D.

Vehicle management------>service function------->power train----->digital diesel electronics(US version)----->adaptations------>swirl flap actuator and then you will have ABL for deleting the adaptation values.Hope it will help you.

Hmm, Thank you. I will check it, I have different language installed and probably this option is missed because of that... I will check. Thank you one more time.

Potentially for 2009 it can be different actuator, because older models have vacuum actuator and newer modes have electric one.

Actually 2009 has same electric actuator. like ingeneur said maybe it's included with some other adaptation.

I'm having exactly this same problem! Took the swirl flaps off for CBU cleaning, and now I'm getting code P200A for the swirl flap actuator. At first I realized that the actuator arm had popped off the rod linkage, but after re-attaching it and clearing the code, it's still coming up every time I drive the car. THe SES light is killing me. I'll have to try the INPA test/reset.

Try it, I checked this morning and mine car doesn't have it after I had reset it yesterday, but I will monitor it few more days. I'm afraid that it can come back again...

I just found that BMW issued a SIB regarding swirl flap actuator.

Its for both E70 and E90.

Hi Greck,
Can you post steps on how you reset it?
I'm having the same issue on a 335d right now, right after CBU cleaning. DDE updated, and still has no option in ista for swirl flap adaptation, while the E70 one does. But if I access as an E70, it doesn't allow it unless I'm actually working on an E70 35d

I've just done CBU cleaning/walnut blasting on a 335d, and I got the dread swirl flap error.
My ista is also missing the swirl flap adaptation menu, but had it if I manual put in E70 35d, it has that menu but doesn't allow me to use.

Thanks.
The way how I fixed it is:
1. Check if the actuator is connected to the lever\arm (sometimes it jumps away from it is position)

2. Open ISTA -> service function------->power train----->digital diesel electronics(US version)----->adaptations------>

3. Reset all adaptations one by one

I did it several times because first time didn't help...

Hopefully you're still around.

How do you ACTUALLY perform the reset of the adaptation. The only option I get in ISTA at level 4 is to 'Search' and when I search I see ABL with a white dot. But, when I double click it nothing happens.

Read somewhere that come cables wont allow adaptation resets... could it be? We're using a Bimmer Soft Ware . com cable....
