e90 330i Angel Eyes -> Add Gradual Fade On - Off

Just picked up an e90 330i (FRM1) to relieve some of the mileage from my 550i. It is well know that if we must enjoy the option of always on AE's, one must either use a Daeos harness or wire directly to 12v using a relay. With that being said, I thought maybe I would add a little flare to the mix by adding a Fade In - Fade out circuit --> taking the LED lights are dimmable. Thoughts?

This is an example using a smaller circuit. The circuit listed on Fleabay has an adjustable timer (Pot).

I would think you need to run a wiring harness first so that the car doesn't cause an error message because of the dimmer circuit that's in place. Also before messing with the car, i would test the dimmer circuit with what ever LED angel eye you go with to see if they work correctly.

Some LED drivers will not act nicely with a dimming circuit depends how that circuit operated. You could get pulsing instead of a smooth dimming, so thats why i recommend testing it first.

Thanks for chiming in. I should have mentioned in my previous post that my plans are to install my own harness/relay that is isolated from the original wiring. I have coded my AE voltage check to "off", so I dont expect to see a fault code. I also plan to bench test with one of the AE LED's from my 550i as I am certain they are dimmable.

Did you replace the AE bulbs? Because they are not LED from the factory.

Also, you can just upgrade to FRM2 which will provide the option to code AE as DRL and welcome lights (fade in and out AE/tail lights on unlock and lock).

The previous owner had already swapped the bulbs to LED but I've not attempted to investigate the brand as I am 100% certain they will have to be changed yet again (not bright enough for my liking). Sooo, you just introduced a game changer - upgrade to FRM2. If I do upgrade the module, then the gradual on-off project will put on hold indefinitely.

For the price of the wiring harness, I purchased a FRM II module $50. Thanks all for the input.
