Hey...trying to decide on the Logic HVI or Ultimate Racing CAI. I like the Ultimate Racing CAI from a price perspective when compared to the HVI. Seems like I get a bit more the the added cost, however I'm a bit concerned about getting H20 in my N54 with the CAI.

I live in the north east and I'm certainly not going to use my 335 as a boat; but what about a heavy rain storm...it seems like water could get into the CAI where the filter is located or will this not be a problem...do I literally have to submerge the filter to cause a problem.

Trying to live and learn and looking for you input.

Unless you drive in 2 feet of water, don't worry about hydrolock
the filter has to be completely submerged underwater to lock up engine, think of a time where it has happened to you.

i have the UR CAI, it's a nice intake, sounds mean as hell and looks good also

logic's alot cheaper and does the same job.... as far as heatsoaking goes, modified snorkel and brake duct will help tremendously

Thanks...but just so I understand...if water splashes on the filter from underneath, it won't get drawn into the engine? Sorry for what may be a stupid question...I am a bit green to this and want to understand the risks.

the filter is sitting behind ur bumper and the chance of water splashing up from underneath is very unlikely. Even if it did, it would not lock up your engine, filter has to be submerged in water for it to suck up water and lock it up.

Spool...thanks I appreciate your help. One more question, if I may, so I totally understand. If water does hit the filter, could it be drawn into the engine and would it cause any harm to it. I don't see myself going through any two foot pools of water, I just want to make sure I cover the one off possibility I mention above.

when i had my honda, the filter was sitting behind the hole in my riced out bumper it was exposed to the elements....i would drive in rain all the time, pouring rain and it didn't pose any problems.

Ihad the same concerns about the UR CAI. Just ordered mine about an hour ago!!

The filter on the UR CAI sits pretty high up. I just installed mine the other day and you would have to literally be in 2 feet of water. The filter would have to be almost completely submerged to draw in a considerable amount of water. Even if some water got through, it would be completely vaporized from the heat of the turbos. I have to say it sounds great and butt dyno feels pretty good! Go for it!

"The Best", how so? Cheaper…yes, easier install….maybe for some.

Honestly, I couldn't justify spending $350 for a piece of powder coated pipe with a filter on the end of it. I'm not taking anything away from what Logic has done, but that's what I felt like I was purchasing. Perhaps if Logic included a heat shield to "finish" off the product, $350 becomes a bit more reasonable…I just think the're asking too much for their product as it stands.

If I'm going to spend $350, another $200 for the CAI plus the value of something in the engine bay that "looks" like it belongs on a BMW is worth the extra few bucks, for me. I highly considered both, but when it came down to it, the aesthetic value of the CAI had a major play in my decision after certain concerns were addressed.

I'm sure these are both very fine products and produce fine results....good luck to you and whatever decision you make or have already made.

I went for the UR CAI after reading everything I could find on intakes. CF wasn't in the budget, so I went for what looked like the most free flowing intake out there, and IMO the best looking. My goal was a somewhat low-key install, so I got the black powdercoat finish.

With the windows up and radio or A/C on, you really don't notice much additional sound, but with the windows down you definitely get a distinct sucking sound that pretty much everyone else with the UR CAI mentioned. I really like the sound.

Darryll at UR runs a good business. PM him if you plan to order their CAI, before you place your order and he'll take care of you. I would order it again in a heartbeat.

Black it looks a lot better then chrome, and hydrolock isn't going to happen unless you drive through a deep puddle of water. Even quickly going through a 1 foot puddle and if some splashes in there will get sucked into intake, some will get stopped by the filter the rest will mix with the gas and combust and you'll never know it happened.

Hydrolock is more a scare tactic used by other vendors to try and sell their intakes then a common occurance

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you really hear the DV's dump boost if you snap the throttle closed when under boost with the windows down, which is expected. I must be deaf cause this is the first time I have heard it on this car... Still haven't been to the track with the Forge DVs and this intake. On every run last time out it felt like the car was starting to go flat the last hundred feet of the 1/4 mile (still ran 12.93/111.10). It remains to be seen if the CAI will make a difference or not. Problem is the night-time temps are up about 25 degrees from a couple months ago... Might have better traction and if the car doesn't get heat soaked, the times should be better...

Tuned335i: Looks great...I agree, other than the GruppeM (if you like cf), the UR CAI is the best looking intake you can buy. Well designed and put together..it really looks fantastic. I spoke to Darryll for a bit , real nice guy and very helpful. I can't wait to get mine up and running...they expect the black to be back in stock and ready to ship by the end of this week.

If only they werent all so expensive! I really like the look of the UR so much more than the Logic. But I dont roll around in money like most of the people here do.
