SES Light-Possible mods?
Been away from my 335D since mid September and just started it up today. The SES light was on before I parked it for P205C, I checked today and there is a new code P0675. I think the P205C has to deal with def tank temp if I'm not mistaken, I remember a post where a guy bypassed a sensor or wire and fixed that problem for like $2 but I can't find it now. Anybody who can point me to that would be much appreciated. As for the P0675 I've read it's not necessarily the glow plug but maybe the module? Anyway of knowing? Car is in north Texas and I'll be taking it to Florida in February for work so it won't be seeing cold weather, am I fine to ignore that code? I bought the car Nov '15 with 72k miles it now has 94k and never had cbu cleaned to my knowledge and I'm concerned it might show its ugly self soon. Anything I can do to help my odds here? I've heard from friends running an injector cleaner such as amsoil each fill up has reduced cbu in diesel pickups, think this would help in the 335D? I'd love to just do a delete and tune with meth to clean things up and get rid of the emissions crap but I don't have the cash for that right now. The car is a road warrior and will probably see 15-20k miles before next fall, what's my best plan of attack here? The computer is also saying my front brakes are only good another 3800 miles, so I'll need to address that soon too. I just need it problem free and ready for long trips by mid February. Sorry for the novel, any help is appreciated!

P205C is in fact the DEF tank temp sensor circuit is low. I believe this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1209238 is the thread you were trying to find, but I'm unsure if that will fix your issue. You may need to get the DEF tank replaced, or it may be time to spring for a tune early.
P0675 is the glow plug in Cylinder 5. So that could be a bad plug, a bad module, or a bad thermostat. I'd say the thermostat is a pretty soliud place to start, and then the plugs and module. Thermostat is a common failure anyways, and leads to bad glow plugs. I believe you'll be fine driving with both of those codes, but as cold as it is in Texas right now, it may take awhile to start up with a glow plug out, monitor your coolant temps and make sure they're floating right at 88C. That's the operating temp for our cars. If it doesn't, look into replacing the thermostat. Also, I have a pair of used front pads and rotors I'll give you for cheap if you don't want to spend the money on new stuff. iDrive told me they were good for another 38k miles, and they are in good shape. I hope everything works out for you! |

I got the P0675 code a few days ago also, and have had P206_ (I forget the letter) for a few months now. I'm thinking of just running with the codes since it starts nicely, even around 0°C. I read the regens won't happen with glow plug faults, but also read in another thread that they will happen as long as there aren't more than 3 glow plug faults and the other permissives are met.
If the regens won't happen because of glow plug faults, can I force them through coding? If not, I'll run until the DPF plugs up and go stage 3. |

Torqu3 that was the thread thank you for finding that!
Update on the SES, this morning I started it up and noticed the light was off, I wasn't sure if the car fixed itself or if maybe the SES light burned out. I drove the car 25 minutes with no light. I got in the car to come home and still no light I ran into the store and as I was leaving the parking lot it came back on. Checked the codes when I got home and both were back. Not sure how that happened and how they turned off and on. |
