I am looking to add paddles to my E90. Currently I do not have paddles in the car. I found a good deal on a 2007 Sport Wheel with SSG paddles.

Any help would be great, I am currently in the middle of changing the transmission for a later model transmission so that I can install the Alpina flash. (I have heard great things about the Alpina flash)

Adding the paddles and a new wheel is going to be the final touch to the Alpina flash!

I am wondering 2 things:

1. Will the actual paddles (+&-) from an M3 fit the SSG module from the sport wheel?
2. Will the modules from a M3 fit in the 2007 Sport SSG wheel?

How much are you able to pick up this wheel? Would say to look for an msport or m3 wheel instead. But m3 from what I've seen in other posts should fit. There's also some nice billet ones out there that look dope and aggressive!

I did some research and I would scratch getting this wheel unless you're fine with these paddles. But it would be better to get the dct m3 steering wheel then getting this or an msport wheel and then retrofitting the dct paddles. Do a search and you'll find what I'm talking about. There's a couple threads out there talking about it.

Is your main gripe with the SSG paddles the look or how they function?

You cannot put the aluminum paddles on those shifters, you can put the dct m3 paddle on the wheel though, they bolt right on and plug in fine and work fine on the pre-fl cars, there is a little gap between the trim and one end of the wheel, but you can't see it.

Hope you not paying much for that wheel, just a standard sport wheel, they are too thin, hard as a rock and everyone has one in their garage, they are only worth about 50 bucks, much better trying to find an M-sport or M3 wheel with DCT paddles.

Not sure, but there seems to be some difference in the Multifunction buttons between the various shifters. This is worth looking into as well.

I did some research, but haven't gotten a good answer as to which Multifunction buttons work with which shifters, nav setups, etc.

There are a ton of button combos for the Short and M wheels (four I think). This link to the various button options is the best info I've been able to find:

It may be that all the 6-wire variant Multifunctions work with any paddle setup (there are 4-wire and 6-wire Multifunctions from what I can see), or..???

I have yet to get any definitive answers. Not sure if you have Nav or iDrive, but it's worth looking into.

The big diff is that the paddles work different on facelift cars than pre facelift except the m3 paddles they are like the pre fl ones and the same all years.

The early paddles just connect one wire to ground for up and a different wire to ground for down, the facelift ones I believe use resistance values instead of just open and closed circuits.

As for buttons, the extra wires support the paddles and adding the buttons for paddles won't make them work as the wiring is not in the column, you need the burger tuning wiring kit to make paddles work if the car did not come with it. Otherwise buttons are the same just different writing on some of them, m car has m button and a programmable button that was later changed to something else. Non m cars had one button label changed also with face lift cars but regardless of the label on the button, the button will do what the car was programmed to do.

So long story short.

Wheel will work, you will need a trim, airbag and multifunction buttons also.

Buy the retrofit kit and it will tell u everything else you need and how to do it.

When I did my paddleshift install I interacted with the Berger guys and they were so unwilling to answer some basic questions before I bought their harness that I finally decided they could discount their kit to $25 and I still wouldn't give them my business.

By an astonishingly wide margin, MotiveMods answered all my pre-purchase questions about which parts, etc. would work, we're honest when there was an unknown, and did so willingly.

It turns out that even the multifunction buttons Berger said would not work, do, perfectly (it appears any multifuction button set with the 6 wires on the connector will support the paddles, though the decal on two of the buttons may be different (and you can swap them out for your old ones by prying the case open)).

You can also expect him to answer the phone and talk you through an questions during the install and be courteous and helpful throughout.

Bottom line, Motive's customer service was a model of what it should be in this market. I'd give them your money.

I got the 335 sports wheel with cutout, just like the one you got here, added the burger harness and worked like a charm..
then i switched to the LCI paddles, but had to make a quick modification on the paddles' board related to resistance. again working like a charm... not too much work to do...
