DIY: Automatic tranny system Reset
this is what some people believe ha worked in the past, Tranny reset for AT's.
"1. Turn cars electronics on-push start button once or twice without turning the actual engine on. 2.Hold the gas pedal to the floor for 25 seconds 3. Most times you will hear the gearbox resetting itself and hear some "noise" coming from your car but not always noticable so dont worry if you dont 4 Now start your car and enjoy the gearbox reset to its factor settings and open for all new learning. The shifts are silky smooth again and shift points shift faster-basically it totally makes your tranny perform better. " |

Hey I just did this on my 06 330 and I took a test drive with speeds keeping up with gear changes. Then pulled back into my garage and performed the reset. I had the door open so I could hear any changes being made. I was not expecting anything to happen but something did happen. I could hear the transmission going through some changes....mmmm
So I held my foot to the floor until I no longer heard anything moving, and when I lifted my foot from the floor I got a ding from the console. I had done something....still thinking that it was just in my head I took her for a spin. In both regular drive then sport mode and low and behold the car shifted differently. It did seem more responsive and I had noticed prior to doing this that I was getting a lag in shifts sometimes when in sport mode. This is no longer the case....the car did shift smoother but it's just so hard to tell if it's in my head or not. I am calling my buddy at the dealership now. I will post a follow up here.

So I just got off the phone with the shop manager at my local dealership. He told me that as far as he knows that the only way to reset the trans. is by computer. He also told me that BMW has many different things that work that even the shop managers do not know of. He said that it wouldn't surprise him if it did work. He also told me that from year to year car computer systems are just a bit different and that it may work on some cars and not on others. Keeping this in mind, I am due for some highway time so I will know in a few hours if it did change anything at all.
