I tried searching for alternative adapters that work with full functions in Carly and more... Here is my story

I purchased the $60 Carly adapter and everything was great! had it less than a month and a few days ago I noticed that my Torque Pro app was taking forever to see the adapter and just the other day the app said the adapter was unresponsive..... I took my old $9 elm327 which has spent most of its life in my cars.. plug it in and BOOM it was working with no issues...

So for the $60 the Carly adapter cost who has found something that works the same for less?????

My elm327 works great for scanning and coding in Carly (which is all I do with that app). It will not do any monitoring that I know of, however.

"Forget" the Carly adapter from the IPhone then add it back and all will be right with Torque.

already returned it... oops

ill wind up buying something else or just get another carly... the only thing that I didn't like was its $60 and less than a month in it already was having an "issue" when my other one worked fine...

if it was that then I feel like a doof since I didn't try that for some troubleshooting, but I still don't thing it should do that in general...

It is not an issue with the adapter, but instead with iPhone wifi networking in general.

The same thing happens with access points and other devices.

I have the same issue with wifi cameras, work APs, etc.

It may take a long time to manifest or not happen at all if your iPhone only connects to one AP.

"Forgetting" and reestablishing the connection clears the entries or better still perform a networking reset on the phone to force it to forget all the APs it has connected to and is still searching for!

Because the new versions of Carly are coded only to work with the Carly adapters.

yup...my son mistakenly updated my Carly app and now no workie on elm 327. Also AFAIK, the ELM does not work with an iPhone only android.

I'm actually quite disappointed with Carly. Have the 1st Gen adapter. It still works for checking DTCs and clearing them. Runs the parameters but with an initial error and then quits once in a while. Coding now is a toss up, sometimes works, sometimes does not. And who knows when a module will be bricked with Carly. If I would be a new person getting into this game, I would either invest the time to set up and learn BMW Standard Tools, etc, or look for other alternatives to Carly.

Yeah, I have started to dislike Carly as well. Similar reasons as Yozh described, plus they have started to nickel and dime on every addition.

K+DCAN + NCS Expert + NCS Dummy sounds like a much better solution. Toss in a $5 ENET cable and you're golden.

Did Carly tell anyone that their adapters wouldn't work after a certain software version? I'd demand my $$ back if this was the case. Are you then forced to buy a $60 adapter if you want to keep all functionality?

someone needs to figure out how to code the adapters and call them Barly

im not smart enough to do that

when I was using the free app the regens was not free anymore... unless I was doing something wrong it was telling me that I needed to unlock the feature? ...

since I returned the adapter and it will cost $120 to get a lot of features I wont use I think I will go for the PC based programs or that nice hand held I cant think of the name lol..

Carly is always like that. You pay for the app, and you pay for the adapter, and then you have to pay for the extras, like a DPF regen or a battery registration. The handheld you're thinking of is the Schwaben/Foxwell BMW/Mini Scanner(Also the same as the Foxwell NT510). The Schwaben one is ECS branded, and comes with the BMW software already installed. I have it and can't recommend it enough.

I just wanted to report that I used my non-Carly adapter last night and it read my codes, and coded some FRM items no problem.
