Humming noise from heater fan?
I'm getting this weird high-pitched hum when the fan is on. When I touch the brake pedal the sound changes slightly. When I turn left the sound changes slightly. On a 600-mile trip this weekend I only noticed the sound at very low speeds. When i turn off the fan the sound goes away. I do not think the compressor is engaged as I do not have the defroster on. Belts and harmonic balances all replaced in the past 20K miles. What say you hive mind?

Yep mine does the same during hard turns. Haven't replaced it yet since it hasn't completely malfunctioned.

Very common on these cars, I had a full bird chirp at low fan speeds, really annoying.
The blower is easy to replace, there is a full DIY HERE I guess some water gets past the cabin filters and drips onto the motor/bearing. This causes corrosion which leads to the squeaking/humming. Its worth a check in the motor as well, there could be debris in there that is causing the imbalance (I had a leaf inside mine). Don't bother getting the blower with the resistor attached, it is two torque screws and two minutes to swap the resistor. Unless you're having fan speed issues, then you probably only need the resistor. |

Mine is rusty right there on the silver tip. This explains why it starts to make noise. When I remove the cowl to do intake pull, I can see right into the area where this is on passenger side. If ever have to change that part, some rustoleum is in order.

![]() If you direct it right at the top nut and the shaft, it works pretty good (And it's quick) Also make sure your outside vent is open (Turn off the recirc)

Squirted some WD40 in there last night and today, not only no humming but also no smell. Of course, this is after a grand total of 20 minutes of seat time.

I am always amazed at this forum. So much knowledge from folks on here even for the most simplest of tasks and smallest of problems. I'm going to have to do this next time I remove my filter.

Well, the squeak came back after 2-3 days so I replaced the blower tonight with a Valeo unit from ID parts. Installation not bad at all, just required more flexibility than my 51-yer-old body is accustomed to. Some of the writeups show it being done without removing the glove box. I tried to that but could not maneuver around the Hvac pipe (see pics) so I yanked the glove box and it only added half an hour. There are some tricky electrical connectors but most -- e.g., the glove box light and cigarette lighter power course -- just pull straight out. Removing and reinstalling the fan unit is probably the easiest part of the whole job. Needed a trim pry tool, a T-20, and a phillips head screwdriver.

That HVAC pipe just pops right out. Its a little tougher getting it back in together with the white piece but a lot less work than removing the glove box I'm sure
