Fuel Filter Replace
Hey everyone just changed out my engine oil today and replaced it with Castro edge slx and a new Mahle filter from amazon, gotta take advantage of the prices and free 2 day shipping. I was going to do my fuel filter at the same time but was a little concerned with priming it properly as I have read it's not good to install a new filter without doing this. I don't have access to any ediabas software or tuning equipment like that, just a Carly adapter. Do you think it would be fine to clamp off the fuel lines close to the filter, take off the old filter, fill up the new filter with seafoam, cap of off the nozzle on the new filter hook up the end facing the tank, then quickly removing the cap and installing the fuel line back on the filter? Only draw back I'm seeing is that I didn't flush the new filter and will probably be a little messy. Let me know what you think or if there's an easier/better way.

This will be the 4th or 5th iteration of same debate we have had. Don't Fear the Fuel Filter thread beats this pretty well. There are two camps: The crankers and the primers. Must we do this again?

At least link the proper thread.
Kyle335D, please read this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=799059 thread regarding the fuel filter, and how to do it, and what to do, then make your own decision. Also, you can't really clamp the hoses shut. You'll have to plug them with a golf tee or similar. |

I had no issue just cranking. It took 1.5 cycles with depressing the throttle while cranking. That's one of the big advantages to a common rail is the fuel system will allow air to bypass and return to the tank through the the fuel return line The fuel in the system should be enough to to keep everything lubricated enough before the fuel pressure builds and fires off the injectors.

This reminds me...I need to PM Jason to post those stickies!!!
While our cars have a cp3 hpfp vs crappy cp4's in vw 2.0 CR's, I would not advise running it with air in system. Plenty of ways to prime and just not worth risk IMO. |
