Guess what my local sales manager said today...
Ok, in short: I put a deposit down on a 335xi in transit, boat was delayed but finally made port last friday. Early in the week my CA said Thursday for pickup, then that changed to maybe Saturday. So its now friday and i had no update, so i do my daily ritual of hitting the owners club. Suprise Surprise the OC says my car is at the dealer. So i call. CA is out so i get the Sales manager.
Me: "Yes i see on the owners club that my car is at the dealer and i would like to confirm?" SM: "yes the truck just pulled in a little while ago" (notice he said that without checking) Me: "great i know my CA is out but i want to set up a time tomorrow to pick it up" (this is where it gets good) SM: Um yeah well it may actually have to be Monday. See we have to prepare each car by programing it. We download software from the internet, they are very high tech cars, and 8 out of 10 cars dont go right so when that happens it has to be started from the begining and our service shop is only open till 1 tomorrow, so it really looks like Monday. Wow is all I can say.

he's probably not b.s.'n you. i have the first run of 06 330 and can't do all the little mod's the later cars can. so when i asked them to turn off the auto locks they told me it would take 3-4 hours to program it.
i was like, 'damn, i can re-flash my 96 chevy in 2 minutes' |

They do have to do a bunch of things. Detail it, go through a check list, drive it a few miles, fill it with gas, program some things. I don't think he's making it all up.

+1. They've got to have the manpower to prep it. I'm sure they'd like to get the car to you ASAP so they can collect their money.

It has been almost a year since I bought my car. I ordered it and waited 5 weeks. I called my CA on a Thursday (day 34 since order) and he told me it might be anytime within the next week. He called me back that afternoon and told me that my car was in and would be ready for pick up after lunch on Friday which was the very next day. I couldn't make it on Friday, so I picked it up first thing Saturday (day 36) morning. So, I'm sure it shouldn't take them more than a couple of hours if they had the manpower.

This is normal.. I have had the same experience. BMW dealers are famous for having the 1 day delays of their car deliveries. But they are working on your car though.

i had an opposite experience...called the trucking company (waggoners) and they told me my car was delivered @ 11am Wednesday; i immediately called my CA and he told me to come around 4pm (same day) to pick up the car...this was a day before Thanksgiving

no i-drive / no stalk menu...nothin'. dealer has to do everything. like i mentioned later '06 models and on can do everything the manual says but early 06 325/330 (w/ 05 julian dates) are without this option. but hell, it's not like i change that crap every day anyway.

Anyone in the car business (and not in for the matter) can attest to how important it is to get the customer to take the car.
In the state of CA, even if you've signed EVERY single document and contract but you never physically moved the said car from the dealer parking lot, it's still NOT you car. So the dealership really wants the customer to drive their car away. A little bit of advice... A little more patience is needed here. You've waited this long... |
