MHD Flash, need help!

Hi guys.

Tried to flash the car, MHD failed telling me it couldn't remove the stock map. Now the car won't start at all. Ticks over, but no start up.

I did all the right stuff, lpfp fuse out, car on charge, doors shut etc. It went for about 30 seconds and then turned the windscreen wipers on, and then failed. Now the MHD app is telling me it can't connect to the DME. I took everything off, replaced the fuse, tried to start it and nothing.

Could do with some pointers.

EBay. Worked perfectly fine, getting readings and logs. Just won't connect to the ecu. I tried my obd2 Bluetooth dongle as well, not connecting.

I don't know what might be causing this, unless you are not following the connection process correctly or you have fried your DME
I have attached the MHD manual that covers all things MHD.. good luck OP

Yeah, had a read, it's in the app as well.

I've tried everything, even disconnected the battery for 30 mins and gave it another go. No good. Pretty disappointing considering I did all the steps religiously, and still failed.

Maybe get in touch with someone local who has a known working cable and Otg cable and go through the process again.

I found this for you might be a blown fuse in the ECU compartment
You could also try contact MHD and asking them for advice.. im sure they have had this question before ... good luck

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=576902

After there inspection they said I needed a new DME and with parts and labor it was $1900.00. I had my suspicions and had tje car towed toy house.

Ran some tests and found it was a blown fuse in the ECU box, replaced and car is running perfect.....just a heads up to all!

First I checked all the fuses in the glove box and they were good...then there were 2 fuses in the ecu, both good...about the time I was ready to give up I located 5fuses packaged together in the ecu compartment....one of those 30amp fuses were shot.

Right.

Got in touch with MHD themselves. Retraced my steps, one by one.

Turns out I'm a f*cking idiot and tried to flash it with from the wrong ignition set-up. So it wiped my DME, but didn't flash the new map on. Hence why the car wouldn't start.

Was freaking out because I wasn't getting any response from the DME, but there wasn't anything there to respond to.

Flashed the stock map that I pulled before I started the process, and it's all good.

Mobile mechanic is gonna be disappointed lol

Thanks Socket, at least it's all sorted now.

I'm still a bit hesitant to flash to Stage 1 98RON, I'll sleep on it and give it a go tomorrow.

Just do it. What's the worst that can happen? You already know how to flash the stock file back on

Yeah I did the same HARDS, thought that turning ignition on without starting meant just insert the key...not press the start button without pressing the clutch, or pressing start while not in park for the auto

Sorry would have asked you about that if I'd seen the thread earlier, the wipers going was the giveaway, I remember that happening with mine

Agree with Cookie, flash the stage 1, you won't be sorry, but make sure you do a log just after and check for timing corrections and fuel trim just to make sure everything is OK...

enjoy mate, but be warned, Stage 1 will just get you thinking about more mods and more power... which isn't a bad thing

Thanks Hoper. Shittest feeling when it won't start and you have no idea what's gone wrong.

Well, here goes nothing lol

All done. 38 minutes, 20 seconds in total.

Started fine, engine seems to rev slightly higher, but feels smoother. Drove for about 15 mins in Drive just to warm it all up, then gave a few small pulls on the way home, shifting around 4000/4500.

I like it. Feels like there's a lot more there, but much smoother in its delivery. Not so snappy and jerky. But that's just me, and this is my first turbo car, being a v8 owner for most of my driving years.

I logged it like Hoper said, but to be honest I have no idea what I'm looking at on the graph. Anyone able to help? I want to make sure it's all performing correctly before depressing the fun pedal all the way.

Also, I set the exhaust burble to 1 second. Didn't hear a change. Should I set it for longer for the next flash?

Setup a datazap account and upload it there, as long as you make it public you can post the URL and hopefully someone who knows what to look for will check it for you, there's a check my MHD log thread

yep its a nice feeling with the extra power

basic info to check is that if you highlight the cylx timing cor, thats the timing corrwctions for each cylinder, you want very little or none of this ie you want a flat line at 0, I'm pretty sure if you're seeing corrections that the car is "knocking" or "pinging" which is bad for the engine so the ECU pulls timing to stop it, too much boost and not enough octane or to lean a fuel mix can cause this I think...hopefully one of the more knowledgeable guys will chime in...

Make sure to reset all adaptations.

I had all sorts of weird issues until I did it.

Thanks Hoper, I'll get on to it tonight.

Kookie, reset adaptions pre or post flash?

Reset adaptations post flash. Not always necessary though, DME will adapt over time regardless. Resetting just helps it to learn quicker.

Exhaust burble works when letting off the throttle.

Log a run in third gear with traction control off, full throttle from 2500rpm to 6000-6200 rpm shift in fourth for a couple seconds then back off. Upload your log to Datazap as mentioned above and we can critique your car.

So... I did a run, 1st one was a bit half arsed and the second caused a code. Car runs like absolute shit, checked the fault and it's telling me "29CD Misfirings, cylinder 1".

http://www.datazap.me/u/hards87/mhd-...og=1&data=3-22

http://share.photobucket.com/sharepr...hp?id=NTczMzQ=

Also getting a small amount of smoke in the engine bay, seems to be an oil leak somewhere. Not sure if it was there before or after the flash, it's pretty negligible but still, I don't want this causing more issues than its worth.

Will the misfire resolve itself if I flash back to stock?

Too hard to review your log on mobile but a misfire makes itself apparent when you start to push the car more. Flashing back to stock may stop the misfire but the problem will still be there.

When did you last change your plugs and coils? Swap the coil to see if it moves to the cylinder you swapped with. If it moves reach the coil. If it stays in the same cylinder do the same for the plug.

The misfire will generally resolve when you switch the car off and back on again.

Flashing back to stock should stop it from re-occuring, as Digital says, pushing the engine a bit harder will uncover where maintenance is generally needed.

New coils and plugs are a worthwhile investment at this stage.

The oil leak will be a pain, search for OFH Gasket replacement as this is a pretty standard place to get an oil leak on these engines
