2011 335d replacing harmonic balancer as this 1 is shredded. Its not my car but a friends. Maybe you guys can answer a few questions for me please. Also, this was just bought w/110k miles on it.
Looks like something is missing from here? The 3 holes?
This was just sitting there not mounted to anything and has 4 small radiator hoses coming from it. Would love to know where it mounts. Was laying under the electric fan.
This hose on the top right side, looks like someone cut it and its just attatched there but maybe not?

1st picture I'm not sure. I'll look around my engine bay and let you know. Does look a bit off. 2nd picture is the transmission fluid cooler. There should be 2 or 3 bolts that mount it just behind the fan. I took it off to remove the interccoler and can't remember the specifics. 3rd is normal. I don't know what it's for, but I've heard it's a "hot air intake" which sucks in air near the turbochargers(HOT air) when the temperature is cold. Not sure on that, but it's totally normal.

-3 holes are plugs as in the 2009-2010 there was an aux electric water pump;
-4 hoses is a heat exchanger that should be bolted up to the bottom of the fan shroud, one torx screw does it. Assumably, you would have pulled the fan and it's shroud to do the balancer replacement.
-hose on the airbox is normal, it is to feed hot air through the valve when air filter gets plugged up and trigger an SES.

Ok, great guys I appreciate the info. Yes, the fan is out so I will check to see where the heat exchanger mounts

I went in to check out those 3 holes, and I have an AUX water pump mounted there. Gonna see if there's any way to activate it in order to bleed the coolant lines after I bypass the EGR. Had no idea any of the diesels came with an electric water pump.

I did some reading online about the aux water pump and to me it doesnt need to be there so Im just going to try and plug those holes so no road debris gets into the motor compartment.

I have a 2009 and it does have the AUX water pump. It is basically used to circulate "residual heat" in case you come to a stop and need the heat to work without the heater element running.

You need to have a charger/power supply. Please check, but the procedure goes like that, at least that is what works on gassers:

-open the bleed screw/s;
-turn on ignition but do not start the car;
-set heat on high;
-set fan on low;
-depress the accelerator for 10 sec;
-aux water pump should run for about 10 min.
