I hope no one actually tests this. I also remember an article where a Prius driver got in the face of D driver about dirty diesels. The D driver reached his fingers into the cars tailpipe and licked them to show how clean the exhaust is. Then challenged the Prius driver to do the same. |

Pretty sure doing that on most of our cars would not be wise. Stock car? Yeah, why not? I'd probably do it.

I've parked in the "Fuel Efficient Vehicle" spots, but I was parked next to a hybrid escalade, about as fuel efficient as a our car driving in reverse.

Emissions, pollution, carbon. All very different things depending on how you define it.
The people writing these articles have no idea and are just contributing to the fear mongering that seems standard in "journalism" these days. Diesel emits less carbon dioxide (Green house gas) per mile than an equivalent gas engine. Probably way less if you compare similar torque levels, which is what really matters. The ratings in that article are probably due to the NOx (non GHG) and the un-burnt carbon emissions (soot). This of course was pre DPF and urea injection. Thing is, most people are ignorant and just see "worst polluter ever", without ever knowing what definition of "pollution" is being referenced. Just my $0.02 |
