I need HELP deciding.... PS3 or Xbox 360
I finally got the wife's approval after two years! I need help deciding . I play mostly sports games (madden, 2k8, EA in general). My brother has xbox, I like it but dont love it. I dont know anyone with ps3. PS3- Blue ray is cool, the built in wireless is nice and they now have the rumble controlers. The online I heard is not as good. XBox- great online, better contreollers but no wireless, blue ray. I dont care about the exclusive games for either. I need help deciding. Please post advice.

well it all comes down to personal preference. I have 360 and absolutely love it. The online experience alone is worth it. Xbox does have a wirelss controller and its great. Graphics are very similar. I think xbox might be a hair better though. Madden 08 is amazing for 360. The realism is awesome. Never played it for ps3. Its totally up to you though. You really cant go wrong with either one.

If it's your only console, I'd get a Wii but you say you like sports games so I'd get a 360 for better online + more people have them. Plus then you can use the "it's the cheapest Blu-ray player on the market and we need an HD disc player" to convince the wife to let you buy a PS3.

Hey e92, its personal preference. I had a Wii sold it and went for the 360. PS3 are mainly for graphic heads and Xbox is the main sports console, Madden, NCAA, etc. but look around and shop for what you want. As for blu-ray I'm sure Microsoft or sony will make some optical drive for the 360 eventually, but if you want blu-ray go for the ps3 and have fun!

Get the... PS 360!!! j/k
I agree with the comment about the XBOX Live (online) support. It's well done. A lot of games are out on both but there are some exclusive titles (obvious ones being Halo and Gears of War - the GoW sequel is slated to come out exclusively too if I'm not mistaken). These are my reasons for choosing the 360 and nothing special on the PS3 caught my eye at the time and I wasn't into the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray market to base my decision on that. But it depends on the games you're interested in, so do a comparison on titles. The Blu-Ray on PS3 is an added bonus of course if you go that route. Nonetheless you kind of summarized most of this up in your initial post. If you don't care about exclusive titles and aren't sold on the 360 already it sounds like you're leaning towards the PS3.

if you want online gaming go with 360 if you want bigger games with better graphics go with ps3. i have a ps3 because i love rpgs(final fantasy on ps3 only) and with blu ray they are able to pack a far superior game onto the disc. x box is still using dvd which they will probably have to start paying sony royalties for the blu ray especially for games like GoW3. I have friends with both and you cant go wrong with either actually.

Thanks guys for all your help- I am now leaning toward xbox for a few reasons-
1- xbox- better online- more people online, all my friends at work/school have x-box 2- seems the frame rate was an issue for ea games last year on the ps3 3- price savings-circuitcity running an add for a free 2nd controller when u buy gta4. My only second thought is that PS3 has future potential that xbox doesnt, in terms of processor speeds, graphic capabilities, blue ray games (ie detail in games) and now the wife is saying by the ps3 because she likes grand tourismo. Knowing what you guys know about your systems, the games, ect, if you were going to buy a new system today (do it over again- assuming you didnt have either) which one would you get. |

I would be worried about the 360 getting updated very soon. I have a ps3 and love it. The blu ray is by itself a reason to get one. If you are going the 360 route i would hate to get one and in 3 months they update the hardware.

I have both. I only own 1 game on PS3 and that's Gran Turismo - I bought it for blu-ray.
As a gaming platform the 360 is awesome. That said, the PS3 hardware is amazing and developers are finally learning how to make use of the hardware. That didn't help really did it?

One simple word "BLUE-RAY", is the future of all movies.
I really think that games flow and work a little better on PS3, i have both, and i must say that x-box live is alot better then ps3 online, but if it took you 2 years to convince your wife to get a gaming system, then think about the future and go with the ps3 because of the blue ray and WI-FI capability. |

As already said (I think) - If playing online - 360. If you need a Bluray - PS3. Wii's are good for kids etc.
GT5 unfortunately is not a reason to buy a PS3 - it's just not good enough (although it does look stunning!!!!!) . Here's a nice comparison to GRID BTW - I own a PS3 and 360 and sold the Wii.

to the OP: its ultimately personal preference. go read reviews on ign.com of games that came out on 360 and PS3. Particularly, sports titles, all have looked better on the 360. Couple that with the superior online and you have a playing experience second to none. The PS3 however is enticing due to the blue ray player. While you can go get one for that alone, rumours have it that IBM is developing digital downloading formats that use photons of light which will let you download hd movies in a matter of seconds or minutes. If you want your hd movie fix now, grab a PS3, if not hold off for 2 years until IBM's technology gets marketed for mainstream use. |

Something about game consoles brings out the inner fanboy in nearly all of us.
It all comes down to game preferences... The Wii is totally different obviously. It's fun, but there aren't enough games that justify it as a primary choice imo. It's a great party console though. The 360 is my personal choice because I tend to favor shooters/racing more than other genres. I also like the controller and the online networking more than the PS3's. If you like japanese-style action/adventure/rpg games then the PS3's for you. Added bonuses are Blu-Ray capabilities and the fact that if you've every touched a PS in the past ten years you'll be familiar with the controller. Graphics are split by a hair at the moment. First-party PS3 software has the potential to look better than what the 360 can do, but it's yet to be pulled off. Killzone 2 might do this though. Still, the PS3's graphical capability is hard to tap, and it'll be maybe another year before we start seeing any gap form between the PS3 and the 360.

I'm in the same situation as the original poster. Like most have said it's all about preference. Right now I'm still trying to decide what's the better option. Blue-ray player, or superior online gaming. PS3 is having a bundle package though in a few weeks where they have the 80g ps3, free wireless rumble controller, and Metal Gear Solid game for $500. Not sure if Xbox is having any similar bundle packages.
