RSX Type-S vs 335i

A friend of mine says that one of his teammates on a bball team says that his RSX Type-S can smoke a 335i.. I found it very amusing, but just wondering, what kind of engine swaps are there for it? He said that he swapped out his engine and got 2.5 lit... Thats all I know. Hmmm, anybody familiar with RSX's???

swapped out his k series for a 2.5? The k20 itself is already a good engine to mod. Your friend might just be talking out of his ass. k20's properly modded can do really well though so it depends really.

A friend of mine bought an old CRX hatch for about 800, did a K20 swap, took out the backseats and passenger seat, changed cams, intake, exhaust on it and got a tune. He does high 11's but thats an extreme case with extreme weight savings.

He could have nicely swapped tuned K24 engine.
(If he isnt' BSing).

I wouldnt say he will "smoke" 335I, but would be close or even faster.
Some of nicely modded RSX's are quick.

Quite possible. A lot of 400hp turbo'ed RSXs out there that run well against Corvettes at the drag strip.

http://www.intensepower.com/grtukitrsxty.html

Or this 645 hp turbo'ed RSX.

http://www.k20a.org/forum/showthread.php?t=879

But frankly...unless your name is "Vin Diesel"...and you live your life "one quarter mile at a time"....who cares.

Yeah the K20 motor is apparently a great engine.

There's a reason why that guy...oh jeez I forget the name...who swaps the Honda K20 motor into the Lotus Elise and Exige. Makes it MUCH faster. They had a video of in Best Motoring.

I'm not saying the RSX is the perfect car for me. Just saying that it has potential to embarass other car owners.

Screw weight savings that thing starts off as a risk of being blown of bridges.

I think you're talking about Joe McCarthy. There's also a couple of other outfits who make kits for the conversion.

... hahha

Yeah I just joined RSX forums clubrsx last night to do some research .. Like what everyone said, I guess they can be made pretty fast if you tune it right and invest a lot of money and time. don't forget effort.. anyways, my friend said that the guy with the rsx wanted to do a couple runs against me.. even if hes turbo'd or supercharged, I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have a problem since I'm running a tune. Damn wait a sec... I forgot he has v-tech.......

Three of my friends had a rsx-s...with an intake, race header, exhaust and an ecu flash..they run around 13.9 seconds in the quartermile..maybe a little quicker with better tires...thats with the stock K20 engine...with a supercharger..i believe they run around mid-13's. maybe a little lower...so you should be fine unless his is turbo'd...they have different stage turbo kits that haul, but that car suffers from massive wheelspin..FWD with no LSD..but i think that 2.5L engine is BS..if u dont have the k20..people swap in the k24 engine..thats about it..

To be completely honest with you if he's turboed and tuned well then from a roll the 335i will be left behind by at least 3 cars. A k24 block makes good torque and when combined with a K20 head it's like the old school Ls/Vtec the Frankenstein. Thats if he is in the 400whp range. Honestly I say you run him from a dig and get the hit cause with all that power even with a 2-step the RSX is going to spin 1st-3rd. I know from experience. Don't be surprised if asks for a 40 roll or even a 60. Cause thats their sweet spot in 3rd. Here take a look at this video and you'll see what I mean. Keep in mind this is only a GSR motor on boost. Granted it's a hatch with 2 people in it. But you'll see what I mean as to why I wanted a lower roll to give give him somewhat of an advantage yet he still spins at 40.

unless there is some seroius weight reduction or F/I an RSX doesn't stand a chance unless you just can't drive. They can be quick, but unless there is serious money in it there is no threat to a 335 at all, especially if you are tuned.
