Is HID another name for Xenon?

If not... can somebody explain the exact technical differences by design. What's common, what is not.

A kit such as this one will use the standard halogen housing and make it work as a Xenon? Right or wrong?

Same as MTEC if I am not mistaken

Those are Euro halogen headlights. That kit uses its own ballasts to make the HID bulb fit in the halogen fittiment. The only difference is that you will not have the projector, it will still be a bright HID light. Be careful, some aftermarket HID kits run REALLY hot and can even melt the headlight housings.

Actually, Xenon is just the type of gas that they use in the bulb, Xenon is A type of HID if I'm not mistaken.

Unless the ballast/bulb is defected, HID usually runs a lot cooler than halogen, that's one of the advantages of HID other than brighter and using less power.
I'm not an expert, but these are the things I've learn reading threads from this site.

Is that right? I was speaking in general, but that maybe the case in terms of automotive industry.

HID is "High Intensity Discharge", which is accomplished using a extremely high voltage (25-40kv to light the bulb), and something around 1000V to keep it burning. It uses Xenon gas for the white light. HID bulbs burn cooler than halogen, and you get more light output per watt. They are also of lower wattage.

And they just happen to be the most expensive OEM parts to replace.
