My hifi radio is set to standard radio
So I have a 2014 with professional radio (No iDrive), I noticed the Gong, PDC, and voice control were WAY too loud with BMW confirming that.
I went into the hidden menu on the radio and under audio it says Audiosystem:stereo instead of "hifi" This is a 2014 so it came with hifi and in NCS expert the VO has 676 (hifi) and the vin decoder shows that as well. So somehow the coding got switched from hifi to stereo. Is there a way to code it back to hifi? Looking through the forums its mentioned to add 676 to my VO, but it's already there and recoding with that doesn't fix the issue. Any help would be awesome |

So you are saying you replaced the radio in an older car?
Whats a 2014 your car or the radio ? I would suggest you contact Bimmertech or Bimmergeeks as you will need an ICOM cable to change that in a later model E90. Also if you have a 2014 its a F3x series not a E9x series. They changed to enet as a programming/ communication (Ethernet format) I am not sure if that effects you or not. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=802793 |

I somehow updated the radio via ncsexpert so it gave me two additional options now "PDC volume" option and BMW assist popped up on my menu that wasn't there before. However, the problem still persists and the radio still states "stereo" instead of "HiFi". Who knows, guess I'll see about this icom cable. |

You might need enet better contact bimmergeeks to sort it out.
I don't know what goes on with the 2014's but others on the coding board might. |

You have ncexpert so you can recode your head unit to HIFI quite easily.
A lot have done it on the forum, including myself for a friend. Just search on the forum, you'll find plenty of tutorial. ![]() |

Tried and kept getting errors. I think the 2014 cars need a special cable.

I had chronic ear-bleeding for some time in my car too but I managed to trace it down to a bug in the firmware:
When the fader is set off-center the volume is reduced on the quiet side but simply maintained (not increased) on the loud side. The net effect is a lower overall volume which then requires a higher master volume setting. Gongs are played thru the driver speaker at the master volume level without considering fader settings because this is the first car that BMW has ever made. How could they have predicted that someone might adjust the fader? Compounding the issue is the fact that the gong volume adjustment range starts at 11 and only gets louder from there. This is also the cause of the radio volume resuming at whisper levels every time you return to the car, an issue that is greatly aggravated by MP3's normalized to lower volume levels to avoid clipping. Lastly, there are some gongs that don't follow the rules for whatever reason. I haven't figured them out yet but some of the weirder things like opening the door while in reverse with a flat tire can trigger what I call a "super gong" which can be loud enough to crack the windshield. |
