Don't throw away that Porter Cable just yet

I spent 6 hours last night polishing out the deep wash marks the Mercedes dealership put into my c32 using my new Flex XC3401 and I found that while it worked great at polishing out the deep wash marks I couldn't polish it without leaving some buffer swirls. This may be my lacking skills but I found that if I did one last application with my Porter Cable, all traces or swirls were gone. I think I'll being using my PC for the final polishing application. Moral of the story: I'm glad that I didn't sell my PC.

I was using a CCS orange and then white pad with Pro Clear-Cut followed by Pro Swirl Eliminator; I'm trying to use up my old Pro Brand supplies. I've just ordered Menzerna SIP and PO106FF, maybe that will help some.

I've used SIP and finish with po106ff and have no marks with my flex. I would have to guess it was the products you used not the flex.

Why not just use a DA and not leave any marks? Save yourself 3 other applications of other products.

The risk of an orbital doesn't always make sense, the DA will not add more problems, it will only improve your paint.

Too many orbital issues, my dealer did more damage prepping my car, the orbital always seems to either create marks, burns or haze.

I say stick with the DA.

Sorry but I don't quite understand what risk there is with a random orbital? You are less likely to create marks etc, with a random orbital. The dual action Flex polisher, while great, did leave marks with the products I was using. As others have suggested, I'm going to to try some different products which I suspect will eliminate the issues I was having but regardless the random orbital is very gentle.

Flex is a DA, it just has more power than the PC. And by orbital, do you mean a rotary?

By DA I mean dual action or random orbital.

I assumed the OP had a pure orbital not a random orbital. How the heck are you getting swirls in the paint. The head doesn't have the strength unless this unit is way diff that say a Meguiars DA unit.

My bad if I am incorrect. My apology to the OP.

But then again, why so many products to fix damage caused by the machine, I am still not clear on that.

No Worries and the damage caused by the dealership is not from a rotary polisher, but from a car jockey that washed my car after getting brake dust all over the wash mitt. At least that's the only way I can imagine getting wash marks that harsh on a car. Since my car was covered in severe wash marks, I needed to hit it pretty hard with the Flex DA. Problem was that the flex DA left slight polisher swirl marks that I needed to remove with my porter cable 7424. I understand that with some different products the flex would not have left marks but it still shows that the PC is very gentle and good for a final application.

And no, I'm not getting rid of my Flex, I love it, I just learned that I'm not getting rid of the PC quite yet.

I thought Flex manual suggest 1 lower speed setting compare to PC since it's more powerful.

Hey I am just noob, looking to buy either one of these polisher so I read alot.

I hate the idiots who use the wash mit for everything.

I basically have a do not wash notice on my car and I leave a giant yellow sticky that says do not wash.

Can't miss it if you leave it on the I-drive.

I hear ya. The dealership had done a good job up until now but I'll never have a a dealership wash any of my cars again. Unfortunately the light was incredibly flat on the day I picked up my car so I couldn't even see the marks. I debated going back and getting them to detail my car but I really wanted to try out my Flex DA and couldn't be bothered arguing the point to people that don't understand swirl marks.
