Hey all,

Question. I've been reading up on clear reflectors, looking to switch out my amber ones.

I know a lot of people go for the painted reflectors, but I'm not feeling them - 1) because it seems everyone seems has them, and 2) don't feel safe removing the reflectors having a dark colored car and the fact I do a lot of night driving.

So I don't like the amber look, but I do really like how the clear ones look. My only hold up is that I have been reading online that clear reflectors are "cheap" and fall off easy...is this true or is this misinformation from vendors?

Also, do the clear ones relfect just as well as the amber ones?

Anyone experience any problems with the clear ones? How can I distinguish a "good pair" vs. a bad one? Any vendor suggestions? Maybe some pics?

I wouldn't know about the quality of adhesive used on the reflectors and I personally don't have them. If you are really concerned with them falling off I would look into getting some type of adhesive for them that won't ruin your paint.

I don't see how it can ruin your paint since the reflector is stuck from the inside out.. meaning the sticky side is underneath your car.

Well only time you would need to worry about whether or not they reflect is if you plan on driving around at night with no headlights and only relying on your reflector... Hoping that someone driving at night will catch a sparkle in their eye when their headlights come into contact with your reflector... this is assuming you are driving blind with no headlights.. otherwise, it wouldn't matter would it?

^ I think the reflectors have double sided tape, but I wouldn't really know. What I meant was if he got some adhesive glue to use to make sure they don't peel off. Some adhesives can eat through paint and you don't want that especially if the glue bleeds out a bit. Just words of caution when applying any adhesive to paint.

The stock reflectors don't bother me with the Crimson Red on my car.

I am with the OP, I don't like the color matched plugs that people put on their car. At the same time, the price for the smoked or clear reflectors is rediculous! $75 for a stick on reflector? Come on guys, you can do better than that.

and painted are $60-65. i actually like how clear ones look and may be replacing my painted ones in a future. and stop bitching. $75 is not THAT much

Are you serious? $75 for a clear reflector, when the stock are with paint match at $65? How can a clear be more than a painted stock one?

Painted are not reflectors and they are not stock.
There are 3 kinds.

Amber OEM reflectors - around $10 form a dealer
Clear or Smoked aftermarket reflectors - $75
And then there are aftermarket painted plastic fillers (NOT A PAINTED STOCK REFLECTOR) - $60-65

They don't sell as well, so for every 10 painted ones we buy/sell, we sell one clear or smoked... economies of scale, guys! If I bring in 100 of them, they will be cheaper... but they don't sell well enough!

Also, the painted ones, as someone else said, are not reflectors - it's just a piece of painted plastic. Molding costs are less.

Well two different things - and we pay two different prices. The smoked and clear reflectors are a unique product that was actually made - rather then a painted reflector - so take into consideration what the factory for mold and production costs has to go through, and then as it goes through distribution. They are both within the same price range so I think we can agree its only better for the variety available for the market right.

I just will not spend $75 for a clear reflector. If the price was more reasonable, I would buy it immediately. It just annoys me for such a cheap piece. I am just debating taking out the stocker and having my body shop paint it.

i bought a 5dollor roll of smoke vynal and smoked my stock ones. still has a slight amber tint from an angle with directly light hitting it, not noticeable unless within a few feet anyway. well worth my 5bux rather then 75.

Can you post a large pic? Where did you get the smoke vinyl?

Painted, clear, or "smoked", the mark-up is atrocious. Total cost of manufacturing a plastic reflector is well under $8. Blame greed. People will either accept the over pricing, or just not buy it.

You could always do what I did. Get the reflectors free from your dealer, and have them painted at an auto body shop (No cost again if you know somebody).
