Those damn potholes, grrrr

Just hit a pothole on my way to work and the car started acting all funny. Felt really unstable like a shocker had gone, but didn't give the same bouncey feeling. Just "uneasy" to drive and squirming.

Got to work, has a look.

Seems a toe arm/control arm or something is now out of whack or bent. It's pointing inwards a LOT more on drivers side. Dunno whether to ring the RAC and have it recovered, or drive it to my local garage

Nah...... I'd have been going far too fast for the pothole to take effect near a primary school

Garage have just called to say the bolt has sheared off in the hub knuckle

He is going to try to drill it out in the hope of saving the hub

Those bolts can be pigs, if someone has removed it before and done the bolt up under droop weight the probably cross threaded it and stressed the bolt. Drill it out and put a nut on the end of a longer bolt. Just make sure you get the correct grade of bolt , I can't remember what the spec is off the top of my head but should be stamped on the head of the bolt.

could still be bent, even if it hasn't cracked or sheared.

I always read you can take a picture of the pothole that did the damage and the bill you have for fixing it and ask the council to pay up.

I've thumped a few potholes myself. Never a good feeling.

Well, car is all repaired now. Garage have given me an invoice for the work, and it's been submitted to the local council. Fingers crossed.

Breach of Statutory duty admitted by the Council. Cheque en-route for the repair bills. Happy days
