E90 325i Ron 91, 95 or 98

The book says RON 91. Most seem to run 98.
Has anyone actually tested mileage between them all or if there is a difference in performance and maintenance requirements?

Is the 20 odd CPL worth it?

You do get better mileage on 98, but these cars aren't high performance enough to warrant it really. I go with 95 as 91 is pretty poor.

IMO always go with the best because it feels better when u step on it and you know it's the best going into your car. Just my 2 cents. My preference when using unleaded is v power.

A review of fuel standards and emissions by the Australian government will most likely make the choice for you.

Some of the proposed reforms are that 91 RON to be phased out over a period of time and/or that sulfur limits are reduced.

Consultation with vehicle manufacturers and oil companies will be made as a significant impact of the technology infrastructure will occur.

91 RON has a maximum sulfur of 150ppm
95 RON has a maximum sulfur of 50ppm.

Europe has minimum 95 RON and 10ppm and the USA will introduce 10ppm this year with 92-96 RON.

Do some testing of your own.

Years ago with a 4 cyl I owned, I found that with 98 I was getting more mileage and when crunching the numbers there was nothing in it in terms of the savings using 91 v's extra mileage of 98 so continued to just fill with 98 (98 has added detergents etc also)

Have sort of been following this. If they are going to phase out 91 hopefully the cost of 95 will drop as compensation and due to higher demand should see more in the market.

I'll go 95 next tank. Still trying to figure out my mileage.

thanks for the numbers.
