My try at reflection shots after detailing
Spent Monday detailing my fiance's car. We only had it a week, but I figured why not give it a shot. I'm still doing everthing by hand because I don't have anything like a porter cable yet. Also, I probably didn't go anywhere near as far as some of you guys, but I'd appreciate any input.

Those are pretty good shots.. just keep practicing...But you are off to a pretty good start...take lots of pictures and just keep trying angles and in different lighting (sun, indoor, halogens with sharp angles,ect...)

Thanks for the comments guys. Any chance you would have suggestions what to do after the Z2... if there is anything to apply after that? I know some people go with Z6 or now Z8, but I was wondering if there is anything that can keep the protection and give more of a "mirror/wet" look.

Multiple coats of Z2 can increase the shine. Adding the Z6 or Z8 between coats, and definately Z8 as the final will improve optical brightness. Once I get a good couple of coats of Z2 on, I wipe with Z8 after every bath. Seems to prolong the protection of the Z2.

...the wax doesn't make a lot of difference. The major issue is the paint correction. 95% of the end result will depend on the detailers skill with a rotary. Don't get caught up in wax hype; sure Vintage is rad, but if they screw up the prep it won't matter if they coat it in pure white carnauba picked from trees that bloom every ten years during a full moon; it will still look like ass. Here is a perfect example.....a pic from one of FMINUS threads, of a car pre Last step product (no sealants or waxes) JUST properly polished paint... ![]() |
