Double bucket, grit guard, mf glove, Megs Gold class.

Do the rims first with separate bucket, mit and tools.

+1 Rims and muffler tips first for me. I basically follow the procedure in the Detailing 101 sticky. Or sometimes, I do an ONR wash.

I use the water from the car on the wheels. Saves time, doesn't hurt wheels.

Do you have a pressure washer? I think this is the best way to wash cars in general:

i agree but i'll add more detail:

foam car
let soak for 5 - 10 mins
rinse
wash w/ regular 2 bucket method
as you wash each panel use the gun to apply additional soap as you wipe w/ your wash mitt
rinse
do rims
on entire car sheet water w/ nozzle-less hose
quick blow dry w/ leaf blower
blot dry w/ waffle weave

before your first step, I power wash the car to get all the lose dirt off before foaming. After five minutes of foam I usually power wash again because dirt has loosen up with the foam so I power wash again, then foam and then quickly sponge up the car (you can use the two bucket method here). It gets the car cleaner (faster) than with just "regular" washing. Of course you can get the car just as clean without the powerwasher, but the key word is "faster" and "easier" .

kk this is the exact way i wash my car....

Tools:
-Plastic Bucket
-Metal Bucket
-Microfiber Mit
-Shitty wash mit
-paper towels
-Microfiber towels
-Meguairs gold class
-Water...lots of it
-Determination
-Decent weather
-Love for my car

Preparation:
-Close windows and roof
-Close doors

1)Fill buckets with soap then pour in a little bit of water to get it nice and soapy, then procede to rinse off the wash mits
2)Soak the car with water(my thumb on the hose so the pressure is higher)....make sure to reach all parts of it
3)Get the Microfiber mit and dip it in bucket of soap and begin washing the Roof
4)Rinse off the mit, dip it back in bucket of soap and rinse off car to make sure that water spots dont occur
5)Then continue to do the rest of the car part by part.... ex. Roof-Hood-Trunk-Doors-Fenders-bumpers-side skirts
p.s. Make sure to repeat step 4 between each panel

6)Rinse off entire car 1 more time with "pressured water"
7)Use window wiper and dry off all the windows of the car(those little wipers you find at gas stations, use the back side to dry off windows easier)
8)Use a small towels and begin drying off car and keep squeezing out the towel
9)Now that the water has been removed from the little towel, begin drying with new towel so you get a streak free shine
10)Use papers towels to dry off windows
11)Put hose on REALLY low pressure and lightly wet wheel, then use the shitty mit and dip it in soapy bucket
12) Clean rim with this soapy mit and then rinse off the rim
13)Use shitty towel to dry rim
14) Repeat steps 11, 12, and 13 for the rest of the wheels
15) take pictures of car and photoshop your license plate out.
16)Post pictures on e90post.com

Interior:
I do interior before i wash the outside

Materials:
-Towels
-Leather/vinyl cleaner
-Leather conditioner
-More towels
-Strong vacuum
-Patience....

1)Take out all garbage ex. Waterbottles, coffee cups
2)Remove carpets and slap them against a wall so the dirt comes off.
3)Vacuum the entire interior of the car.
4)Put carpets back in
5)Use leather cleaner to clean the rear seats and center console
6)Use leather cleaner to clean everything else...
7)Dust off the dash and shit like that
8)Wait a few minutes....
9)And a few more minutes....
10) Repeat steps 5 and 6 with the leather conditioner and new towels!
11)Take a nap
12)Drink water
13)Wash exterior...

I just got some CG citrus wash and gloss from good old FedEx today. So, I will be using that for now on. I've heard some good things about it.

I use a power washer to blast away all the dirt and grime

then I wipe all the water away with paper towels

but somehow, the more I do this, the more of a 'matte' finish the paint gets
