So, I want to buy downpipes for my E90 but i'm looking at two right now, ARM's downpipes and VRSF's, I wanna go for the ARM because they're $100 less & i've heard great reviews from ARM but the one thing stopping me is that it says for, 'rwd vehicles only' and then i have this VRSF DP that are supposedly for xdrive, what Im trying to get is there really a difference? those who have XDrive did you get dp specifically for xdrive? I've just read its harder but not impossible, but are there really two types of downpipes? XI & RWD

Yes there is definitely a difference. Just get the VRSF and be done with it.

I know for sure that the VRSF Xdrive pipes reduce in size. Their RWD pipes are not reduced in size. So yes, they are different. I have the VRSF xdrive on my car that has xdrive.

Can you use RWD pipes on a Xdrive car? That I can not comment on as I have not witnessed that myself.

I have the VRSF on my Xi - HUGE difference. Very little sound increase (after yeras of LOUD ass mustangs i like a QUIET car) but there is some, but it's a NICE sound - deep, throaty. The made a BIG difference in power on my car at the time just FBO stage 2. I could feel quicker spool and more power and torque.

I've been told by Cedar Performance where I get my car tuned and built, and also from what i've read, don't leave the DP fix on your car. It's just to get you to pass inspection, then take it off; if you leave it on, it's my understanding it'll start making your car run "off".

I personally have a "hook up" for inspections, but, here in TeXas you are allowed to fail ONE emissions test, so if your downpipe is the only thing you should be ok.... alot of states are like that actually.

You don't need the downpipe fix at all with MHD. 1 readiness test will be incomplete which is allowed with emissions testing.

True in VA and MD. Im not 100% but I believe it is true with every state at the moment. Maybe not CA

All the some states are the same, not all states are the same when it comes to inspection.

Xi DP are different the RWD DP's.

The Xi have different bends.

You can put Xi DP on RWD but not RWD DP on Xi.

You can view the pictures side by side and see clearly they are different too.

That completely voids any point of the test. Anyone can clear codes right before a test and go through with readiness incomplete state. I can tell you first hand, TN will send you home and tell you to come back after driving the car a bit more.

You can not clear the codes and have them immediately come back up as "ready". You have to do a drive cycle. So everything else has to be "ready" with only one "not complete". So you will need all the other systems in proper working order and coming up as "Ready" so your one "not complete" will be for the o2 due to the downpipes.


Some states would allow two "not complete" to pass. A few years ago most changed to one "not complete" to pass.
