Well, I'm back from the dealership. I could not get a straight answer as to what progman they updated me to as the SM was out. All I could get was you have "the latest software" and it's higher than 27.0.
Edit- After driving 500+ miles, everything is back to normal! Power is intense again and lag is minimal! I still couldn't get a straight answer as to what progman I have now, but who cares...my animal is back and ready to pounce! Sorry for the initial scare guys, but the car has definately adapted now and is back to normal! Last edited by canesr1; 06-16-2008 at 04:47 PM.. |

Cane - you are the man of the forum right now. Everyone with Dinan and who wants Dinan should be crapping in their pants. I don't know about you guys, but I don't have $2000 to literally throw away.
I feel awful for you man. Keep us posted please. You have every right to get Dinan, BMW AG, BMW NA, and your dealership involved now, for obvious reasons. Dinan said it would work - it is not working. BMW is screwing you (and all of us) with this friggin 29.2 bull. And finally your dealership/techs/SA have no idea what the hell they are doing if they don't know the current Progman that you got and can't tell you. I wish I had the cash for an AMG C63. I'd be GONE from this car. Makes me sick. As you said, who cares if there is a bit more power after the turbos are FINALLY allowed to spool. If they are lagged and softened, that's NOT COOL. ![]() Two more quick things. Don't accept "it has to adapt" as their answer. You know it ripped right off the lot the first time you got the Stg II Rev 1 map. Also, you may want to improve the title of your thread to it's more accurate. Like "Dinan Stage 2 Rev 2 NO GOOD with 29.2!" |

All that talk about the Dinan ECU Flash being the the "fire and forget" tune with zero issues and all under warranty, blah, blah, blah. However, now with 29.2, it seems like there's just as many, if not more issues with the Dinan ECU Flash as there are with piggyback tunes.

Sounds like your dealer overwrote your Dinan flash and it's no longer there. You will have to have the Dinan reflashed.

Let's keep this thread civil and without anyone's "piggy-two-cents." Canes, did you confirm they actually flashed your car?
Does the car still pull eventually after this dead spot? A certain period of time is required before you feel Rev. 1, which maybe the case here. My suggestion is to call Dinan after you have confirmed the flash is Stage 2. Good luck.

I'm confused, did OP have 29.2 installed after Dinan flash, or before? Doesn't the update overwrite the Dinan flash?

The dealership that Cane went to is one of the nations top sellers of Dinan. The guy who flashes them knows what he's doing as far as that goes. I would be shocked if the car didn't actually get Stg 2 Rev 2 "properly". It IS dissapointing that they let it out the door to the customer like that, though. I don't have the Dinan so admittedly I can not saw what kind of adaptation period there is and how dramatic the change is as you drive it, but, for Cane to notice lag and not a lot of extra power with 20+ miles of driving, combined with the fact that it was Thompson who flashed it and they likely know how to flash the Dinan properly...frankly has me pretty worried. Then again, they can't tell him the progman version they updated his car with, so take that all with a grain of salt. ![]() |

This is why it takes 5 hours for the progman and 15-45 minutes for the Dinan. The concern was (and what is potentially showing here) is that the modules of 29.2 making the cars feel crappy with lag and whatnot are not those which are overwritten by the Dinan. |

Interesting. It would be an embarrasment for Dinan if they said it would work with 29.2 and it doesn't. Kind of like the one with auto flipping back to stock like boost that they just recently fixed.
I'm not a Dinan basher, but I do not understand how they would not fully test this stuff. The auto issue they fixed shows they did not test properly in one instance and had to issue a fix. If having 29.2 installed and then the flash installed negates the flash there is more explaining to do since their website just says DME 81 won't work and does not mention the new software for DME 80. I hope this is just a single car or dealer issue, and does not impact everyone, but it would be nice if Dinan made a statement that they fully tested 29.2 + flash. |

Ok I just reread his other thread. It seems:
1. He got Rev 2. 2. Went back for unrelated issue, they gave him 29.2. 3. Dealer supposedly flashed back Rev 2. And now his car sucks, like everyone else with 29.2.

![]() I will not even take my care in for an oil change. That stupid problem with the break booster leaking came back on me after having it warrantied a few months ago and I'm going to live with the problem. Hopefully nothing else will go wrong. |

![]() I'd like to think the people at Dinan will formulate and post a response to the 29.2 issue .....

got my car back from servicing today, it was in due to rattling noise in the exhaust. One of the item they did was "performed SIB 11 13 07" . I am assuming that's an upgrade to v29.2 we are talking about here. Yup, I do feel the lag at low RPMs, and the exhaust sound louder too, it droned like a bad aftermarket exhaust, not a really pleasant noise to hear. I will call my SA tomorrow and report about that.

I just got back after another 30 miles or so... it seems to be pulling better now...not sure why...maybe not as hot/humid???? The lag is still there but I need more time to drive and figure out what's going on... Whether I'm just not use to the rev2 or is 29.2 slowing me down???? It definately seems more responsive if I DON"T go WOT for some odd reason. Remember, I'm coming from original stage 1 flashed back in december. I only drove 100 miles at most on stage2rev2 last week. So this throttle Response is still new to me. I am 6MT with a may'07 build. I am also still waiting on a return call from dan at thompson. |
