The big BMW recall game!
Now I'm sure we're all fully aware that bmw has a big recall going on at the moment. Call me synical but as much of an inconvenience this is to each dealership I'm sure they're all looking at this as a rather good money spinner. By that I mean that when we all take our cars back for the recall work, I guess bmw will also do some sort of health check which is where they then find all sorts of things 'wrong' with our cars that they can then encourage us to let them sort out.
So just for a bit of fun let's see who comes back with the most amount of 'problems found' and the biggest potential bill to sort them all out. Mine is going in on Monday and although the car is absolutely fine, apart from maybe a front-wheel alignment issue (o/s front tyre is wearing on the outside edge), I'm sure they will somehow find many other things 'wrong' with it and present me with a list as long as your arm that will cost me a small fortune to fix! I have a feeling this thread could become quite comical! |

Took mine in yesterday for the 2 recalls... but they only fixed the battery terminal connection. They didn't do the blower harness connection as there are no parts on the UK at the moment. They didn't mention any problems if there was any on my car. I don't think they even looked tbh.

I'm covered under AUC warranty (and also awaiting parts before the recall can be done), so not worried about what they might find.
I actually welcome the dealer inspections - if they do find any problems that I wasn't aware of, then I can decide whether I want them to do the work or get it done elsewhere, but it's better than not being aware that there might be a problem. Still not as good as Lexus, though - when my IS250 was in for a recall, they not only gave me a decent loan car, but they also put Ł25 petrol in my car.

Mine was given a “free health check” when it went in the other week.
The check come back fine, but it means that they missed the slight oil leak coming for the main oil seal... Which is very obvious if the car is on a ramp and would probably be big money for the to fix. |

Phoned Sytner Harold wood on Monday last week and they asked me to bring car in the next day.
Both recalls done in 2 hours while i waited. Health check done and no other issues found. All happy and couldn't have asked for more from them. |

Any time you ever go there you see them trying to sell all kinds of things.
New tyres is normally the most common. Lambs to the slaughter! Yeah they'll definitely try to up-sell on this increased foot fall.

Well I take it all back! Got my car back yesterday with a completely clean bill of health. They even said the tyres were all good which was a little odd given the o/s front is wearing on the outside edge. Was sure they'd come up with something that they could try and screw some money out of me for.

Yeah they do seem to try it on. Had a 'health check' when my battery lead recall was done (still waiting for parts for the blower motor fuse link) and they said one of my suspension bushes was shot and diff seals were weeping. And my air con needed a service.
Dropped into my trusted indy, who popped it on the ramp and said every item was total bolloc*ks. Hey ho...

I went in for mine yesterday, fixed the battery cable but similarly no parts for the blower, however it is is fine currently but needs doing
Engineer was very good, sent me a health check video which identified a tyre with inside side wall damage, rear discs and pads measurements and also highlighted my power steering issue (which is also logged as a code), no pressure, not even asked if I want to book it in with them, just we identified these problems that need attention |

Well I just got the letter saying the electrical connector or whatever it is needs replacing.
I used to have a BMW warranty which I cancelled about 2 years ago. Far too many mods to ever make reversing out the changes economically feasible should something go wrong. Can't say I'm chuffed about giving my car to them. I'm going to see if I can arrange to have the work done while I wait and put the car into the most HP restricted mode possible.
