Newbie over here so be gentle lol

So ive just bagged myself a 2007 335i convertible. Now i do like to add my own subtle touches to cars, im not a huge fan of a load of mods etc.

So i was thinking about some M badges around the car as it is a M sport after all. However i have read on this forum and other that this is truly frowned upon in the BMW world, is this true??

I know its not an M3 but it is an M sport and has these badges dotted around the interior from factory.

What is everyones opinion on this?

General consensus is not to add any badges that didn't come with the car.

I on the other hand, wouldn't do it and when I bought my 330 and 335 new, I ordered them de-badged.

cheers for your opinions. as the car is black what i have done is changed the 335i badge from chrome to black, looks mint.

I though the "M" stood for M Sport, and if thats correct mine is an M sport so have ever right to use the "M" badge as is its else where on the car from factory

Congrats on the purchase. I have a 335i vert M sport too. Enjoy your new to you ride. M sport and an actual M3 are two different things. Those who put M badges on non M badged (from the factory cars) are considered to be those who are trying to portray something they don't have. Basically, most have no idea what the M even represents or stands for. Those that do know, will know instantly that it is not an M series. It may be an M sport, but this does not make it an M series. M Sport will basically have a tighter suspension and a fancy M badge on your steering wheel.

Long story short, those that add M badges get made fun of by the enthusiasts. Yes, it is frowned upon.

As for badges in general, I debadged mine completely. For me it was an issue of wax dust build up in the corners of the numbers that drove me nuts. I've debadged all my cars though. It's not a matter of advertising to other drivers what I have, I could care less of their opinion. The BMW emblems on mine stay factory blue. The original emblem is what it is and I have no desire to make it carbon fiber, black, red, etc. I'm also not a fan of carbon fiber wrap as it isn't carbon fiber by the same mentality.

I went with just an M Stripe badge. I wanted to add something without adding more "M's" to the car.

Congrats on the new purchase! Yes, it's true that it's frowned upon. Ultimately, it's your car so do what you please but it's thought of as trying to portray your car as something it isn't, even if it's an M sport. Enjoy!
