No Stereo/Bluetooth

I know there have been many threads on stereo questions. I am not sure if I am going down the right path. So, I will just post my scenario and ask what should I be checking for to fix this?

Everything was working fine, when driving in New York (about a month ago), I went over a heave in the road. Jarred us pretty bad. I cracked a rim. I love New York roads. Well, the cracked rim wasn't the only issue. After a minute, I realized there was no music playing anymore. I looked down, and my display was blank. Just a blank display. That little bump in the road caused me a bunch of headache and expense.

So, I check for a blown fuse (looked okay, assuming I am actually looking at the correct fuses). I pulled the panels out of the trunk today. I pulled the fiber connection from the amp. I got a red light from the amp, but not the cable. I was expecting the opposite (light from cable not amp). I disconnected the amp and pulled it out so I could look for the amber light at the other end. reconnected, and got no light. pulled fiber cable again and no light. Checked cable under dash and of course no light. The other modules I see, and recognize are the radio antennas module and TCU. I also have the usb/aux connection in the glove box.

you should check fuses and radio connector until display on radio start to work, after that you can diagnose rear modules

Checked the fuses again last night. A few slots were empty, can't remember which. All were good. I will try to pull the stereo head unit and check connections tonight if I get home early enough.

Fuses listed for phone/stereo: 09, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 27, 42, 56, 59, 63

2nd link tells you how to read L7 amp Led's and is the cheapest L7 repair place.

idrive or pro radio? There is also a fuse on the back of either.

I pulled the radio (pro) last night, and played with the connection. Everything came back. it seems like the connection is a little flaky, since pushing it in causes it to shutdown. I just move it around and get power back.

Now that it is working again, I noticed that the rear speakers are much quieter than the front. I am not sure if it has been that way since I got the car, since I usually fade slightly to the front anyway. It doesn't really bother me, but an observation.

I am also curious about upgrading the Bluetooth. I would like to stream Bluetooth to the car, and the Aux input with a Bluetooth connection just doesn't cut it for me. I was considering a new head-unit, but don't really care to shell out $800 for it right now. I saw this thread and was curious what others thought. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1499808 Has anyone else done this?

Is there another device that is recommended over this?

The only programming I have done is the injectors when I replaced them. It looks like he gave a pretty good write up. So, I think I can do that.

All other devices like this cost three to four times as much
such as the Dension gateway 500s bluetooth. It does come with
a center console plug that looks OEM with both a aux and usb
port though. Dension makes a programing dongle that enables cdc
they charge 50 for it last time I looked.
Grom makes a similar product is was more expensive also.
Everything else uses the stock aux port for music even the wma 3000
and I believe you said you were trying to get away from that.

The programming to enable the cdc is very simple .
You may need an ICOM cable to do it though if the car has
a build date passed 3/07

I messaged Nickco43 to see if he still has his for sale....Just got a response. His price is much better than the other options.

If I am going to spend $400, I might as well go all the way and the Dynavin head unit.

I am thinking his offer may be best.

I havent used Tune2air, but have used three other device similar to it. The audio quality was noticeably bad. I can get this: https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Han...oth+conversion for a little bit more. It is said to have much better audio quality.

How would you compare the two audio quality? I keep hearing that the Aux input for the this system is the weak point for the audio.

Some where in the middle of this(above thread) there was a conclusion that

Aux alone sucks.
Aux with Dac better
USB best

for audio quality

plus there is a big thread here on wireless bluetooth where every form
of something that goes through the aux is tested. Including expensive
Dac's .

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...ight=bluetooth

The guy that wrote the install thread for the suggested cheap alternative
most bus device went through at least one or more of these and concluded
that it was the best device.

After going through those threads, it seems like the problem is getting away from Aux and A2DP for APTx. However, the same issue is prevalent with Android phones. Very little control from the steering wheel, and volume issues. Have to look at this again, when I can spend a little more time.
