My DTC button is stuck!
Its my second favorite button to press after I hop in the car (next to the start button of course!)...and its stuck! Actually its sticking. My theory is that the previous owner had a coke in the cup holder and it spilled on the Lock and DTC button area. Its also must have hit the A/C controls since the up/down toggle is a little sticky as well.
Does anyone here know if that unit comes apart easily and how to do it? I would like to take it apart and clean it. I fear its a sealed unit and one of those $200 parts from the Stealership. Anyone have some advice on this for me? Thx |

Warranty is for defective parts from the manufacture...I cant imagine they would replace a part based on the stupidity of the owner. Plus, I have a pre 29.2 program car and I would like to keep it that way. I fear that if I drop it off for a day to get fixed they may do more than just that...maybe my fears are unfounded but its still a fear

Hmmm, thanks for the advice but Id rather take the button out of the dash and see if I can clean out the gunk from the mechanism. I dont think WD40 would be good for electronics. Plus I still have the new car smell and I hate the smell of WD40

its pretty easy to take apart. look in the DIY section on how to swap interior trim or look at the tvandnav2go install. that DIY shows how to take apart the dash. ive taken like 4 dashes apart to install the tvandnav2go mod and i think its pretty easy for what you want to do.

Yea, you just pop off the wood/aluminum trim on around the center vents. After that you can unplug that switch for the hazard, dtc, lock/unlock. Then you just push it out.

MUCH easier than leaving the car at the dealership only to get a bill for Coke spillage...I cant imagine this would have been covered under warranty although my X did take her 525i in for a broken cup holder and they fixed it no questions asked. |
