Checklist for Guibo Replacement
I have a 2006 330xi (E90). The front driveshaft was damaged near the transfer case, and I had a shop replace it. They replaced the driveshaft, but not the guibo or any other parts closer to the transfer case. After I got it back, I found that the transfer case was leaking. Last night, I drained and refilled the transfer case, hoping that maybe it was the drain plug o-ring and knowing from the drip that the fluid was in bad need of replacement anyway.
Well, that's not it. I'm guessing I need to do what I should've done all along, which is replace the guibo, etc, and especially the seal (https://www.ecstuning.com/b-corteco-...107546667~cor/). I'm looking for advice, links to good YouTube vids, suggestions on parts I might forget to order, etc, before I tackle this. Thanks for any help. |

how was your driveshaft damaged?
quite possible the front output bearing got wasted. make sure you check it for slop when you're replacing the seal. Doing the bearing now will be a whole lot cheaper than replacing the case. |

The "knuckle" on the transfer case end of it failed, started twisting on itself.
And I looked at the diagram wrong - there's no guibo on the front shaft, only on the rear. But now that I've been under there a couple of times, it's become more clear that it's likely the output shaft seal that's leaking. My problem right now is that I can't get the output shaft out so that I can replace the seal. See https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1220395. And thanks for the advice - I'll take a close look at it when I do get it off. |
