Thought I'd put this one to you Bimmerpost sleuths. Think I know the answer and this may end up being a dumb ignorant question but thought I'd double check with you guys anyway to know for sure.
Lately every once and a while when I step into my garage I immediately smell gasoline. It doesn't matter which of my cars is parked in there I don't think although they both take their turns in and out. I did just fill up the 128i and park it in there today but not sure thats the reason. The only other source of gas I can think of is a quarter full cherry can which I filled with 91 octane to carry as spare fuel for a track day last year but I never used it up. When I go near it I can't smell the gas and both the small and large caps appear pretty tight. My car also doesn't smell near the tank. Regardless is this cherry can likely the source and what should I do? The fuel is a year old and didn't have stabilizer added to it. Is it still worth anything or should I dispose of it (and how?). Makes me wonder how proper fuel storage is really done as I know lots of people keep gas in their garage for mowers and "just in case". Love to hear your thoughts guys. |

Make sure you release the pressure on your cherry can. Pressure builds up with changing temps and you might be getting fumes from the caps. Also check any lawn equipment you might have.....2 stroke weed eaters will pressurize and leak...….Phil

Hate to be picky, but I really think you mean "jerry can"...??
And I do think that is the source of your gas smell. Empty it, and see if the smell goes away.
