BIG Turbos.....
My brother is being offered a race at $500 against a 1992 gsx big turboed. I can't give much details about the gsx because I have not seen the engine yet, but my friend said this guy have a big turbo running about 35psi. I don't know a lot about turbos so I'm asking you turbo gurus which turbos are common on the 1992 gsx that can go 35psi, t3/4, 16g, etc?
Oh, and the only thing my brother's car have is v3. We're thinking of putting race gas and running at about 1/4 tank. |

Sounds like it'll be a bad loss. I'll just tell my brother to do a couple runs just for fun then. I'm interested in seeing what this guys got.
Bet aside, what do you guys think my brother will fair with if they do it from 20-30 roll to lets say 120ish? Big turbo has a lot of lag right, if we keep it low maybe the 335 won't lose as bad. |

Prolly got one of these bad boys strapped to that Eclipse
Just hope his car blows up when the turbo fully spools and your bro might win

The engine is stock and it was rebuilt. I'm not sure if he put forge internals or whatnot, but isn't 35psi really high for a 2.0L? I know EVOs and STIs can have high boost up to the 40s. I just don't know how strong the GSX are.

I think you should give it a shot. I raced civic that dynoed at 480whp 6 times, 0-80 or so and crushed him every time with my car which is JB2 only and otherwise stock. Every race the civic would just obliterate tires. Front wheel drive sucks to drag. We even went roll on from 30 or so and same story twice, just sits and spins.
Mitsubishi's start out at 210hp with around 14 psi of boost, so it has to have a ton more to get to the ~350 hp of your brothers car and no matter how they do it, it is not going to have a torque peak near as low as the BMW BMW's get out of the hole hard, and with a V3 his should be into the twelves, and that is no joke for some cobbled together mitsu with boost that takes 5 seconds to build at which point you may be well down the track. Lastly, remember, that thing could go 300 mph, but it's still no BMW. |

alright...here it goes. I own a DSM, it happens to be a 1995 GSX. stock is 210hp, and 214tq with a 2.0L inline 4 turbo awd. the 1992 gsx came with the same engine the 4g63, the best thing about it is that it is a 6-bolt motor. The stock turbo on the car is a T-25, it safely can boost 14psi. Most of the older DSM's can safely squeeze about 25-35psi WITH DSMLink, fuel pump, bigger injectors, etc. If the guy is boosting 35psi, I'm going to take a wild guess as to which turbo he has. Looks like he has either has a TD05-20g, or a 50 or 60 trim turbo. It wouldn't be worth it for him to race the gsx, they are total sleepers, I know for a fact that mine is. Put it into perspective like this...my 1995 GSX has a 2.3L stroker kit in it with Wiseco 8.5:1 pistons bored over 0.020". DSM bastard 20g turbo, Greddy Type S BOV, K&N Filter, Apexi 3" Downpipe, HKS Carbon-Ti Exhaust, Magnus Sheet Metal Intake Manifold, EVO III Ported Exhaust Manifold, EVO III Ported o2 Housing, 900cc injectors, Walboro Fuel Pump, DSMLink EMS, Custom FMIC, Fluidyne Rad, Shepherd Racing Stg2 Trans, Xfer Case and Rear Diff, Comp 272/272 Cams, Meth Injection. ACT 2100 Clutch Kit w/ltw Flywheel, CF Driveshaft, and upgraded Front/Rear Axles,My car LOOKS completely stock minus the BOV and the Intake Manifold. It dynoed at 510awhp and 500awtq, and its a 10.9 second car (with a good launch)....I only spent around 5000 to have everything modded for the engine, trans was around 2000....think about how cheap the mods are for the car, good thing is that it is a total sleeper, bad thing is HANDLING....has crappy turning radius (chevy suburban has better turning radius than the eclipse would)

^^ sorry p-nut you gave me a headache. So many names and stuff. But i do agree with you. The gsx is a very cheap car to make it fast, friend of mine has one that can do 10.6-10.8 boosting at 32psi. Its a fun little car that he built for less then 6 grand.
