Dad's looking for speakers...
for a home entertainment system. He's already got an HDTV and wants a sound system around 800. Do you guys have any suggestions?
I was thinking about the Bose 3-2-1 set, but it's pricey and I've been advised against it because it's overpriced. I have been looking into the Yamaha ones, but there are so many, I can't choose! |

dude Bose is shit, don't waste your money...
if you're willing to bump your budget a little, the sbs-01 goes for $999, and its a freakin sweet package. even if you don't go for the system, DEFINTELY get the pb-10 sub from SVS...its THE SHITTTTTTTT..... http://www.svsound.com/products-sys-sbs_black.cfm i myself will be getting the sbs-01 system along with the yamaha RX-V563 receiver for my living room... |

if you have problems convincing him, tell him to google reviews on the sbs-01 bet you can't find a single bad review for it given the price. I know because I googled it before deciding on it.

You can't go wrong with Klipsch.

I'm happy with my SVS sub. Don't know about their other stuff.
One prob with SVS is that you have to order online (unless you're in Canada, or live near their factory), and can't touch and feel before buying. But it's good quality, I know. I also have Boston Acoustics for my front, center, and rears, running off a Denon. |

Gotcha! Which Denon? I recently bought the 3808. Love it, but crappy manual. I'm subscribed to the 'Official' thread on AVS.
The SBS-01 is meant to pair with the SVS PB10-NSD or the PB12-NSD sub. I have the PB10-NSD, and it's HUGE. Massive enclosure, for a 10". |

Avoid Bose for one thing.
I got myself a nice budget system for my place. I had to keep it somewhat small because I have a smallish living room and I live in a condo with neighbors. Basically for about $400, I got: Harmon Kardon AVR-146 Dayton Sub 10" Dayton surround speakers (center, right, left, surrounds) For the price, the system kicks butt. The sub is amazing. The speakers are small, but work for my situation. If I went for a little more pricier system, maybe a couple hundred bucks more, I would have gotten a better HK or Onkyo receiver, some Polk standups for the R/L channels and better surround speakers. I wouldn't have changed the sub. |

Also look into Ascend Acoustics. Amazing speakers and blow away speakers 3x+ more expensive.

We all agree that Bose is crap....Klips, DA, BA and others are all good for the price...Yamaha, Denon, HK (if you want) can all get you a decent system for the price that the OP is looking for... but...cablesforless.com for wires....
