manual gearbox swap on a N55 Automatic / Which one?
Hello guys ,
I have a n55 335i E92 AT and I want to swap the transmission it with a manual one. I know a N54 manual gearbox will fit on N55 if I mount a N54 flywheel aswell. What I don't know is : Can I mount a N55 gearbox from F generation? The correct part-number for E92 is 23007599342. Here are 2 problems : 1. this gearbox is very rare on ebay or other car breakers.(I don't want to spend 4000$ on a new one) 2. They tend to break a lot. There are many users who complained about the second gear problem. Also there are 2 units damaged for sale on ebay. So that's a fact. Realoem is very confusing , says that this part number is superseeded , but when I click on the new partnumber my E92 dissapears from the list https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...&q=23007599342 Because I found one from a F22 , partnumber 23007617492 , and I am not sure if it will work. What are the differences between these GS6-45BZ ? I am really stuck. |

I went with the N54 because of how cheap and abundant they are. Plus from what I've read, they seem to be a bit stronger than the N55 manual trans as well.
Can't tell you the differences between F chassis and E chassis N55 manual trans... I'm really not sure. But I've had an N54 manual trans on mine for over a year and 12k miles without any issue. |

Hello , yes , N54 seems to be easier to find(and cheaper too) , but if someone will confirm that a F series gearbox will fit , I will go for it. It should be smoother in changing gears , at least that is what I've read on forums.

I've had zero issues with mine, bought a transmission with about 90k (same as my motor) for ~$600 shipped. Put fresh redline MTL fluid in it. Shifts nicely, I used a short shifter that makes it a little notchier but I haven't ever had a gear grind or any problems shifting at all. Really happy with the swap, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. |

Also @rich_mane : what gear shifter assembly did you used ? a N54 one or N55? Last edited by disabled_cata; 01-09-2019 at 10:03 AM.. |

I used the N54 6bolt flywheel and a clutch I found used on the forum. I reused my AT driveshaft and center bearing. |

Update?
I saw a couple of you started attempting the swap a couple months ago, did you guys finish? If so, any advice for me? I plan on swapping my n55 e92 soon, trying to get as much insight as I can.
