6AT Shifting Slightly Slower During High RPM
Hey Guy's,
I have a question, I've searched and searched but cannot find the exact answer I'm looking for. I'm hoping someone may be able to just shed a little little bit of light here. I have an E92 with Step and the only mod I have is a Procede w/ V3 and the Stage 0 map (high boost map or whatever). While shifting in sport mode under part and full throttle and RPM's lower then 6k I can see and feel it shifting at the claimed s1/10 of a second or whatever it is.. my question is when shifting closer to redline at RPM's over 6k I seem to have a longer lag... example I hit the upshift paddle at 6k it wont shift until maybe 6500 RPM'S and the shift feels as it it's taking slightly longer. I'm not trying to get flamed on for having an AT as I got a screaming deal on it that I could not pass up... I'm just trying to understand if this is what everyone else is experiencing. FYI, prior to the Proceed upgrade I had similar shifiting lags in the high RPM range. Your help is much appreciated! Last edited by BayAreasFinest; 07-17-2008 at 12:19 AM.. people would be mad if the steptronic shifted for optimal life rather than optimal smoothness. also if you read up on ZF transmissions they usually behave different in a few different modes, cold start, normal, getting hot, too hot/limp to protect the parts.
the fastest possible shift is usually the easiest on the transmission clutch packs but can have some undesirable side effects like the tail end lighting em up in the rain and people driving off the roads. until you can tune the transmission like other manufacturers i doubt you'll be able to detune torque management to your liking. and what would be the point of the ECT if the steptronic was working so well

I always have a shift lag problem 3-4 gear on my 6mt at high rpm, i just shift it at lower and it seems okay 80 % of the time I guess my car has a frog in the throttle body at times.

The delay between pulling the paddle and it shifting seems, to me, because the
engine is revving so darn hard (even stock in my case). What I don't like the the actual shift. Like the OP mentioned, at part throttle, lower rpm, it'll be quick, but at WOT, redline-ish it'll be soft.
