Front end creak/groan over speed bumps
My 335d has just over 107k on the clock now, but for as long as I've owned it there has been a distinct and loud creak/groan front the front end when going over speed bumps or other road features that create a rapid and large vertical suspension movement. Thrust arms look perfectly fine and I wouldn't normally suspect them at this mileage, but with the M57 weighing at least a hundred lbs more than an N5x, perhaps they wear much more quickly? Upper strut mounts also appear to be good, as do sway bar bushings and links. Visibly at least everything checks out. Before I start throwing parts at it, any experience/advice/knowledge out there on this issue?

The fix would be to regrease the tiny ball joints. However, it's unlikely you will get the old end link off the control arm and sway bar without damaging the threads or the dust cover. With the amount of work required just to do the install you are far better off replacing the end links and then enjoy the quiet for a few years to come. |
