Thumbs up Crimson92 Spectre Dual Cone Intakes Installed

Decided to keep the DCI and give it one more try with "Stage 1" V3.

Install is really straightforward, if you removed stock air box before. However members that running Forge DV's will find that its REAL PITA to insert a rear one due to large DV hose being on the way. Removing the rear DV hose prior to install makes things much easier. Left the stock snorkel out, looks very ugly just hanging there alone. The cones in silver do look beautiful in the engine bay btw.

During the normal driving on 6AT the induction noise is minimal, but changes dramatically at WOT after 5k rpm. Not too loud at all. A little extra whoosh and a sneeze right after the up shift. I bet that the noises are more pronounced on MT cars. Throttle did improve very slightly over my BMC, and overall power band feels meatier so to say. Regarding the lag due to adaptation I haven't felt anything on a 94 oct. “Stage 1” V3. Just installed and drove away.

All in all great mod for those of you who you running a strong tune to really see the benefits. And at $135.00 international shipping included from Crimson92 can't find better then that. Next on my list Spectre Heat Shields from Crimson92 for my Dual Cone setup!

Thanks for looking,

I do, and very hard at times. I just wipe the engine bay after each wash.

Nice to see that you actually keep the engine bay clean. Some of the guys take photo's with their engine bay looking like they just drove cross country. You know who you are.

It's good to see that people are realizing that a lot of the so called intakes out there are just 2 cone filters strapped on to the stock piping.

I have a couple questions though...

What is the filtration rate with these filters?
Who is the manufacturer?
What is the cleaning process?

IMO, we should be more concerned about what debris enters the engine instead of just thinking about the looks, sound, and power.

This might be a dumb question--but why would you want a heat shield for the dual cone setup? Is that something that anyone running a dual cone should be thinking about?

Well i think Terry (BMS) has one in the works for their DCI's but didnt know if one would be available for these in the near future. Heat shield would help in blocking out some of the high heat temperatures the engine puts off especially during idle i would think...

No offense to the vendor selling these but Spectre filters are widely regarded as very low quality. These are the same filters you see offered at auto parts stores with the cheap sport compact parts. I think retail price is $17.99 or $19.99 each? There are accounts online of these filters flaking apart inside and sucking parts in motors. Please people these are $15,000 motors buy some quality air filters.

I see....well would having the shield help ensure that the air flowing into the intake would be at a lower temp? Or would it just help control overall temperature in the engine bay?

well I think it would help the intakes NOT suck in warm air...and that is always a plus
