Which audio system do I have..?

Ok before i start, i've read the guides on this and done my homework - something just doesn't make sense though.

I've got an 09 330d and want to do some audio upgrades. Obviously i need to know which system i've got to begin with though. I've got the professional stereo, there are also tweeters in the mirror backs which seems to suggest the "hifi" system. Good news i thought, so we went looking for the amp.

There is no amp.

So I seem to have a mismatched audio system, no amp = base audio system right? But then, it has working tweeters? :|

Correct. if you have no amp.
But ampless systems don't come with tweeters
But did you check the correct area to find it?
Also checking the Vin is the best way to check which options
the car came with.

option 676= Hi Fi 677=logic 7 and I think 688 not sure

I checked under the plastic cover on the left hand side where the amp would be, i found the bolt holes where the amp would normally be bolted in. Definitely no amp there

Tweeters from BMW are at the front corner of the front door
window's . Maybe someone put in the Alpine upgrade or maybe
just a set of tweeters hoping that would improve things if you
have them. I think the Alpine upgrade puts the amp in a different
location.

I don't see a Hi fi or Logic 7 code in your Vin.

There for the Base system upgrades would apply.

Yes, i'm pretty sure this is the most basic audio system - it's certainly nothing special. I think somebody has intended to upgrade the audio at some point and simply added the factory tweeters from the hifi system, that would make the most sense.

I believe there is a PnP kit to install the full alpine system isn't there. My brother has an e82 with this setup and it's punchy enough for what it is - maybe that would be a decent upgrade.

I don't think that is much of an upgrade see links for
better options.

I just liked the fact there was a bolt-on upgrade pack which contained all the bits i needed for it, and it would be 100% oem stuff with no wire splicing.

I don't want to go too overboard on the audio with this, i made that mistake before. One of my other cars has twin 12" subs in the boot which kick out 750W RMS. I don't want anything like that and i don't want to lose any of the boot space either.

Think i'd be happy with adding an amp for the components and getting a bit more bass out of the existing underseat subs.

Think that's achievable without butchering any oem wiring and just using harnesses etc?

The thing is the OEM stuff sucks Hi Fi system is mediocre at best
Logic 7 is a little better . You don't have to do any cutting into
the OEM electricals if you use the correct Harness.
Technicpnp.com is pretty much the best.

At the rated power the OEM amp output chips are at 10 percent distortion.

If you put in a big sub the rest of the system won't be able to keep up
but that is what some people want these days.
If you read those links the answers are in them.

I've read through the links thanks, those are helpful.

What about if i were to buy the relevent harness to allow an aftermarket amp (the JL Audio one looks good), this would boost power to the speakers. Then maybe upgrade the underseat subs, imagine they'll sound a lot better once the audio goes through a crossover and has a bit more wattage behind it.

How does that sound for a budget upgrade?

That's pretty much what everybody use to do .
(As you can see from the links)
You can see that in the links.
If I was doing it again now I would consider a dsp/amp
Like a Helix 86dsp or Helix BMW7
there is really no budjet solution unless your great
a dumpster diving .
About the lowest Technic could get it was 750 US .
More typical for quality awsome equipment would be around
1500 Us.
