Dinan Stage II Review, Short Take
I've only driven the upgraded car for about 12 miles so far but here are my impressions:
More volume. That's the first impression. I don't know if the increased volume is purely a side effect of more boost but the upgrade really brings alive the stock exhaust note, which happens to be great sounding in my opinion. I don't know why people are in a hurry to ditch it. The next impression is more torque; from 3000 to 6000 rpm this car accelerates with a new found sense of urgency and purpose. The car feels a bit pissed off, to be honest, but in a good way. I haven't tried WOT in 1st gear but assume it's a pointless affair as I'm getting the traction control light in 2nd gear. That never happened with the stock car. My butt chronometer says this car is faster than my stock E39 M5 was, too. Not by a huge margin, but with similar power in a 300lb lighter car this is to be expected. The best part is the drive-ability of it all. There's nothing peaky, jerky, or non-linear about the power delivery or throttle response. In fact, plop someone in this car who had never driven or heard of a 335i before and they'd probably have no clue the car was modified. Sorry I can't compare this flash to other tunes but can recommend this upgrade for anyone who wants a truly invisible tune with near stock driveability. Lastly, cost was $2100 including labor at Rasmussen BMW in Portland.

Very nice descriptive writeup. I am contemplating on Dianan as well. But as for now I ordered the SSTT.

So far, no. I hear very little in terms of whistling noise. I'll roll down the windows and try to listen for them. They are working harder so you would expect to hear something more but I think the stock exhaust & downpipes muffle the turbos' screams to a great extent.
You're thinkin' stage III, which includes the oil cooler and intercooler. Stage II is about $2K and is software only. Also, there's no sales tax on parts or labor in Oregon so the bottom line price is exactly the cost of the mod plus the labor rate for about an hour or so.
