Vorsteiner Decklid spoiler install question - Betalink

Hi guys,

After many weeks of waiting, I finally got my Vorsteiner Decklid Aero spoiler back from the paint shop. I plan on glueing it to the trunk with Betalink. I know I'm supposed to sand down the mounting point on the spoiler itself for good adhesion....but do I also have to sand down the clearcoat on the trunk (where it mounts??) I really hope not...but I need some advice from the experienced on this one.

Thanks in advance...

its the carbon fiber version....the mounting surface of the spoiler itself appears to be a hard plastic.

test fit with your emblem and badges pulled off ... from what i have seen the full carbon fiber decklids fit very well ... u shouldn't need to sand anything ... apply the betalink and wait 5 hours for it to cure

No need to sand down like the folks said above. Just clean off the area, apply the beta link and hold it down with clamps or weights.

Only use double sided tape if you dont mind the edges of the spoiler to pop up a bit...

Betalink gives a much better flush look, imo.

Long,

I am not sure if you have spoken with Vorsteiner about this but they do not recommend double sided tape anymore. Double sided tape is not strong enough to hold up against wind resistance at high speeds and can lead to the spoiler being pushed down on the trunk. BETA Link is highly recommended as far as mounting to prevent any drooping or sagging.

I was under the impression that the recommendation only applied to the the PUR version of the deck spoiler. Vorsteiner did a fantastic job on the CF spoiler that IMO is one of the few pieces that I have had no fitment issues with.

Also I discovered that even my betalinked CF spoiler is coming off. LOL, I guess downforce really does work, that and I need to stop driving so faakin fast

that is correct if you are installing a polyurethane spoiler. but for carbon fiber or plastic, lots of double side tape is fine..

Betalink is highly recommended for both versions if you want the most flush install. You may be able to get away with DS tape on the CF but I still recommend BETA to be safe and prevent sagging over time.

I had the PUR version and used the standard 3M Double sided tape. Went through at least 40 high pressure washes w/ the jets directly on the spoiler. Also took the car to 140 a couple times and NEVER had any problems. When I sold it, the damn thing would NOT come off. It took me at least 30 minutes and 2 rolls of dental floss to get the damn thing off. If you ask me, if you apply the spoiler w/ double sided tape CORRECTLY (clean surface and prep) you should not have any problems.

hmmm...i did consider the double-sided tape option in the beginning...but decided against it (for fear of sagging over time). this will be a permanent fixture...i do not plan to ever remove it...if i sell the car the spoiler and everything else is going with it.

you need to remove the roundels from your trunk and place them on the decklid, I also removed my 335xi emblem from the rear trunk
