First CEL with SSTT
Hate to start another thread about the SSTT CEL that people seem to be getting, but today while driving to work (my 1st day - go figure) I got a CEL while cruising on the highway.
Temp was 72 degrees outside, low humidity and I was cruising around 60-70MPH. I believe the car was shifting from 3rd to 4th automatically in D mode. I've noticed that a couple of the members experiencing these mysterious CEL's are either cruising at highway speeds or driving on hot, humid days. Turned the car off/on as soon as I could (about 15 miles later) and the CEL went away. I drove the long way home today (about 30 miles) and couldn't regenerate the code. Jeff, any ideas? |

My situation was when humidity didnt play a factor. I am taking the SSTT off temporarily and seeing if it still does it. However, that is AFTER I got to a 2-day track event this weekend.

This has been covered multiple times, but my understanding is that the CEL will disappear after restarting the car, however, the code is still stored in the DME. I don't have 29.2. Is there any way to clear these codes? In my IS300 I was able to disc. the battery and hold the brake pedal for ~2 min. This cleared all codes. Anything similar for the 335i? I'm not too worried about this one incident. Hopefully it won't happen again, but if it does the SSTT will come off. Thanks. |

Have your fuel pump checked! That's what happened with mine and it wasn't due to the TT. Replaced the fuel pump and no problems.

I already had my fuel pump replaced over 10K miles ago. I had hard start problems..long cranking. I am 99% sure it is NOT the fuel pump.

Most limp modes are soft codes which mean they are not stored.

i've had a limp mode ONCE with SSTT (no CEL). Basically, it could be a number of reasons why it would come up... dont assume the SSTT automatically. Take it off and drive around for a few days to reproduce the problem. Then try to reproduce it again with the SSTT.
i figured it was my HPFP since i replaced it not too long ago and i havent had any problems since (knock on wood).

Well, I got my two limps with my SSTT this summer alone.. so humidity and heat might play a little factor.

Hi Guys,
All of the info above is good info. Heat and humidity can cause in some circumstances a limp condition. The few folks who seem to get them usually don't get them again or once in a great while. Part of the safety system in the SSTT will cause a limp if heat becomes a factor and the vehicle gets push hard. In very rare occasions we get the situation where the car limps during simple acceleration after driving for a while. In almost every case after disconnecting the negative battery terminal the problem does not re-occur. With several thousand units on the road running perfectly, we always want to look into the rare issues that pop up to see if there is a similar cause and affect. Keep me posted on your experiences as also in very rare occasions we may have a defective unit or faulty connector plug Thanks, Jeff Eurobahn |

Everything has been fine since the incident, and I even filled up the car with a couple gallons of 100 octane last night. I'll keep an eye out. |
