I have been a diehard BEL/ESCORT guy for 2 decades and still would use or buy.

But.... The UNIDEN R3 I've been running since last year is bonkers good with range of Ka which is the MOST widely used radar in America by police. Especially State Troopers. I am still amazed out how far in advance it alerts me to threats!

Not necessarily true. In California, especially Bay Area, it is 90% lidar.

I just bought my R3 last week btw.

Are those detectors allowed US-wide or are there restrictions from state-to-state? Just asking because I'd considered to install one during my road trips at holiday

I think just Wash DC and Virginia ban radar detectors.

And then not allowed in tractor trailers - not sure what the weight or commercial truck rules are

I don't know....I mean....don't speed in areas where you shouldn't...then you don't have to buy one? Don't drive in a manner that attracts attention and you won't have to worry about getting pulled over. I stopped with the radar detectors awhile ago when I stopped driving like an ass.

I have the Max 360 in both vehicles and it seems that lately all I get are alerts from other cars radar systems. Chrysler, Honda and GM products seem to be the worst. Get behind one and its chirp chirp chirp until you pass them. Been running detectors for 20 years but starting to think they are more annoying than anything.

I went from a 9500ix to an R3 and the difference is incredible. There have been instances where the R3 started picking up Ka several miles away. The 9500ix was slightly more user friendly (e.g. firmware updates) but the R3 functionality more than compensates. I highly recommend the Uniden.

Correct! Keep in mind there are firmware updates that are easy to install from laptop.

Totally absurd post. "Drive like an ass"????

I've been accident free my entire over and decades of driving. But I do go above the speed limit. Not gonna throw insults. I'm gonna just say that I know from experience that Cities and Towns absolutely supplement their income and budget from giving speeding tickets! Personally, I don't like giving away my hard earned $$$ to bullshit like tickets or the effort it takes to remove them. Kudos to you for always going the speed limit. But no need to flame those who don't. Or choose to invest in said devices.

The updates were a little easier on the 9500ix and it also had that auto mark memory for false alarms, which was nice. But overall, no comparison because the performance on the Uniden is so much better.

I'm curious if you can use the same chord (mine is hardwired) from a V1 to the R3 for a quick install?

If it uses the Telephone jack type then yep.

I had my BEL hardwired and uses the same jack as the Uniden.

I have been considering the Blend Mount. Anyone have this?

I recently went from 9500ix to Max 360 and it cut down on most of the false alerts from other cars I experience. Weird that you are still getting them on the 360.

I run a blend mount and love it. Very pleasing to the eye and rock solid.

I hear you, but from my personal experience last year onto the road from Barstow to Bakersfield and from there to Fresno nearly no one was holding the assigned speed of 55. The average driven speed was around 79 m/ph and we were driving into a group of few cars. The first one must have had a detector as he pushed instantly the brakes and as we'd passed a small parking lot at the right, a trooper with a black car was surveiling the traffic.
For me this has nothing to do with drive like an a**, but swim with your traffic buddies where possible.

Just updated the firmware in both. Maybe that will solve some of my issues.

I have a 360c with a RadarMount mirror mount, love the detector... the mount, it was cheap and available next day, but I'm not in love with it, doesn't fit well around the BMW rear view stalk.
