Anyone purchased a car from Canada and imported it to the USA?
I was thinking of doing that for a long time and I did some research. I know about letter from manufacturer and 2.5% import tax etc. But perhaps someone in here done it and know the exact process? How not to pay Canadian sales tax or get refunded? Best way to transfer money to dealer, CAD or USD, and where to get best rates? We are talking 50-60k so rate matters alot.

Sorry don't have answers to your questions re: importing etc.
For rates you may want to look into foreign exchange companies based in US. In Canada I used "Knightsbridge Exchange" few times and they had better rates than major banks when I converted CAD to USD and vice versa. Perhaps you have something similar in US. |

I did it the other way in 2010 when a $ was a $ and your economy was fucking dying.
Dealer in Allentown, advertises for $20K, i say $16K, he says "do you have the money" ... i say cash cheque baby, he says come get it asshole. Car had 15,000 miles, was $45K new in Canada Still DD the car today, has 75,000 miles and cost of ownership excluding gas and insurance is around $225 per month, which is insane. |

I know of a supercharged Z4M that was imported into the US from Canada.

It's just car that I like has packages that are not offered in USA. So if I could save some $$$ and get a better car, that would be nice.
There is about $2.2k difference Google currency converter vs bank |

Superior Auto Sales in Hamburg New York.
I sent an email to every import company in New York and I decided after one correspondence to go with Superior. I dealt with Sarah and she was great. Everything went smoothly and they shipped it from the seller's house to mine with all paperwork, etc. taken care of. I titled it with no issues at all. Highly recommend them. |
